AJAX: Help designing simple feature

I'm trying to re-design my site, http://www.theartistdistrict.com, with a nice top large ajax navigation. Here's a mockup: http://www.theartistdistrict.com/ima...magemockup.jpg Clicking the words in the right box (spotlight, reviews, interviews) should change the left two boxes which will point to a PHP file which will query necessary information from my forums DB. I know how to write all the PHP for what the boxes will hold, but I'm pretty clueless as to Javascript and AJAX and how to do that. Thanks all.

hmm.. use yahoo ui or dojotoolkit, ( if you want something big in plans) , of you want just a small features, yopu should take some smaller framework, i personally use yahooUI for now. but you may need to know at least some basics of javascript and DOM model ;-)
