Lighthttpd how to enable Modrewrite

Posted by boonchuan, 05-01-2007, 12:29 PM
I am installing phplinkdirectory in lighthttpd, keep having problems with Mod Rewrite, everytime, I enable Mod Rewrite, 404 errors come out. What should I do?

The first basic question is have you translated all of the rewrite rules to lighttpd syntax and included them in your lighttpd.conf file? Lighttpd doesn't support rewrite rules in .htaccess and uses a different syntax from apache.

Sure would be nice of you to post a link to a "syntax conversion page".

Migrating from Apache Maybe this will help.

Hello, Lighttpd doesn't support per-directory config files and it doesn't understand the Apache file format at all. You need to write the rules in the lighttpd.conf.

Paste your rules boon.

Thanks for the link Lute. After reading about the "conditionals", I have a followup question to this response. Will the lighttpd.conf file support different rules for different domains on the same vps or must the rule once set apply to all domains under that config file? And just to fully illustrate that I am a noob where is the config located? Which directory? Maybe if I download and read a real copy all this would make more sense to me.
