clamav checking

Posted by linktome, 06-21-2007, 10:36 PM
I have it installed on server, but sometimes it's dead, but no warning from system. It will prevent emails working then. So I wonder if there is any way to check clamav? when it's not working, system will release an email to the admin? thanks,

I would recommend using something like monit (http://www.tildeslash.com/monit/) for this task.

That seems a good monitor. Thanks for your recommendation

one thing I have noted that it needs to run on all systems, is that correct? Is there any monitoring script checking remotely? Saying I have clamav on 5 boxes, and want to check all of them from one server. Dont need to install monitoring script on every server

clamav doesn't listen on an external port. You would need something on each machine to check the process is running.

If you have nagios for monitoring, you could setup nrpe on all the servers and have nagios run the checks natively on each machine. But you may need to write your own plugin for that.

sprintserve: Nagios really isn't a solution in this case, if someone needs to ask about monitoring processes they cannot setup Nagios.

I heard you. It's not the easiest to setup I guess. But it's a solution, and other readers may find that it solves their problem.
