Using putty ssh as proxy v/s proxy servers.

Hello everyone, I've been using putty ssh as a proxy with the command line "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -D port" and running my desired program with sockscap .. But running putty each time and then logging in just to run a program proxied is annoying. Ive decide to setup a proxy server on my vps . There was a big difference between using putty ssh as proxy and the proxy server though they were both on same server. Putty ssh would give a good ping while using and fast speed. But the proxy server had a very high ping and also it takes time to reach high speed. I was wondering is there is some proxy server that would give same result as using putty ssh as a proxy .
