FTP - uploaded file not overwriting

Posted by webspawner, 01-05-2008, 01:16 PM
Does anybody understand what is going on here? Here is the problem: I log in to FTP and I try and upload an updated file (the file already exists on server). It prompts me to overwrite and I say yes but when I refresh/check the site the page hasnt changed - I then tried uploading the file again and it still says the existing file size (so I know it hasnt been replace). Any idea why it it not overwriting? The files are CHOWNed my the owner (FTP user) which is myself. Please help, thanks

Hmm... maybe try uploading using your control panel's file manager and see whether it works.

Thanks for the reply, I do not have a control panel file manager - I have a dedicated server using the matrix control panel. Any other idea's?

Try using other FTP clients. I recommend FlashFXP and SmartFTP.

Even I feel that the folder is locked using chattr. Can you please list the output of the command "lsattr " . Execute this command on the folder to which you are trying to upload files

Did you check the ownership/permission of the user home directory?

i dont think this is a chmod issue... i believe we will need to run a chattr command here... can you please run the lsattr | grep filename in the directory.

Might you be using vsftp? if so what version is it? reason I'm asking is because some older versions have a serious problem where uploaded files get 0 permissions or entirely random. But it would be a pretty old version.

What happens if you upload a new file? Do a test with a simple text file.
