Configuring SSL With cPanel/WHM - Help Needed

Posted by Daniel_G, 01-07-2008, 11:42 PM
Hi, I have got a WHM Reseller Account, with a Dedicated IP address and RapidSSL Certificate. My host has setup the SSL for me, and it works fine when I access https://www.main-domain.com/ (where main-domain.com is the Domain associated with my WHM account). However when I try and access https on any Account which I've made under my Reseller Account, I'm just redirected back to https://www.main-domain.com/... I was under the impression that if I accessed a Domain on an account I made that shares the same IP as my SSL Certificate, that the SSL Certificate would appear for that Domain name too, but this isn't the case. Is there any change the my DNS records, or something I can ask my host to do to get it to work? Many thanks, Daniel.

Daniel, This isn't possible based on the way SSL certificates work. Each SSL certificate is for a specific domain or a wildcard for a domain. If you were to use the SSL certificate for your domain to go to another domain, anyone accessing that domain would get a SSL error noting that the domain does not match the certificate domain. Ideally, you should put each SSL domain on a separate IP and install a SSL cert for that domain on that IP (you can't have multiple certs per IP) If you did not want to allocate the IPs and purchase the certs, you could have the domains redirected to a placeholder domain (this is going to your domain) which has a SSL cert setup. i.e. https://secure.domain.com/~user/theirpage.html
