ApertureHost Introduces High Availibility Enterprise Xen Virtual Machines

Posted by MikeTrike, 12-18-2009, 09:26 PM
ApertureHost.com is proud to announce that we're finally launching our new flagship service. Xen powered enterprise class Virtual Machines, a.k.a. Virtual Private Servers.

What is a Virtual Machine?

A virtual machine (VM) is a software implementation of a machine (i.e. a computer) that executes programs like a physical machine.

How does a VM work?

Basically we take a high performance dedicaded server (in our case several servers for high availability) and partition or divide it out into smaller VM's.

How does a VM benefit me?

A VM gives the features, control and privacy of a high performance dedicated server, without paying for a high performance dedicated server.

But I don't know how to use a dedicated server!

Not to worry, all of our Highly Available VM's are fully managed, we will take care of everything. By default we load it up for web and email applications that are typically seen on standard web hosting services that clients currently utilize.

What do you mean by High Availability?

What we mean is maximum uptime; we guarantee 100% uptime and maximum security. All of our Highly Available VM's will be powered by Ksplice for automated and rebootless kernel security updates, meaning there is no need to reboot to apply patches. It happens automatically! Not only do clients get rebootless updates, their VM's are also running on a fully redundant iSCSI SAN storage platform.

What is iSCSI and SAN?

iSCSI is a term for using SCSI technology/commands over a private network. SAN is an abbreviation for "Storage Area Network," which is basically just a fancy term for remote storage. If you don't care how it works, rather only care how it can benefit you, just skip this part.

In simple terms, what exactly do I get?

100% uptime guarantee, better service performance, higher levels of security, ability to load any compatible application a client wants, and it's all handled by us.
