Types of php coders

Hi i have often wondered if there are actually names for different kinds of php coders or is it all or nothing. What i mean is that with the different segments of coding there are certainly people that are proficient in one thing but not another much like the medical field. For example in overall coding, someone might be great at html and basic php, but not at javascript. In the same sense in just the php field alone, someone might be good at straight forward php but not good at php when it comes to template engines, defining and using all the template vars in the tpl file itself. So has template engine php become a specialty? If you just know basic php and can right a script without the template engine are you still a full fledge php coder or half of one? I guess my main question is, is it all or nothing, or are their php specialty fields developing? I certainly consider myself a programmer but i dont know all the facets of php, does anyone really lol...

Are we going to start seeing titles in signature footers or business cards in the future much like doctors do, for example maybe PHP-GC (general coder) PHP-TPL (template coder) PHP-CS (class specialist) PHP-MC (master coder) and just to be funny here PHP-HF (headers and footers) like ear nose and throat lol

I don't think we'll ever get that specific.

There are people who specialise in debugging and performance, I like working with backends rather than frontends and really complicated database stuff with PHP - so for example I like *writing* very fast template engines. Doesn't mean I'll turn other stuff down - so for a number of years now may day job has been UI-heavy - even though it's not really my preferred area of "research" I still enjoy it. It's not going to get specific in the sense that the OP asks. You do get a people who specialise in working with particular apps like say wordpress, who know it inside out and that's basically all they do too.

I see job descriptions such as: - front end coder with including php skills - back end php coder - web designer including php skills - wordpress developer with php skills - cms (such as joomla) developer with php skills etc... I've rarely seen "template coders" as a description.

I imagine most PHP coders being a jack of all trades. I certainly find myself requiring more knowledge in different areas than non-coders would ever think is required for web development.

Lol, immagine a job as a header and footer php coder only hahha... Get money for doing simple things... I wish I could do that for a living. From my point there are only two types of PHP coders. Beginners and professional coders. There is no golden middle.

Yes from my experience people who call themselves PHP programmers are pretty limited. More often than not they are programmers who do alot of PHP. Atleast in the high end stuff. Not that Im saying its a bad language or anything, it just has rough corners that those who have studied it in depth realize.

Well, there are those who know the programming rules, and there are those who are really masterful at programming, no matter what language. I think the principles of a developer makes the difference, not the language. There is even a movement called Software Crafstmanship that aims to code beautifully no matter the language.
