Hello, I own a media site. It was all working fine until today when it just simply wouldnt let me upload anything, in IE7 or Firefox. When I looked in the Firefox error console it says: Error: Permission denied to call method Location.toString I havent changed anything, so I dont know if it`s my server or the local machine being funny. Any suggestions?

that is a javascript error. It sounds like you need to chmod the folder or file the script is accessing. You said you are uploading so the issue is probably related to the upload folder, chmod it to 777 or 755. I know you said nothing has changed but I have a php cart that sometimes has to have the folder permissions set and I have not made changes. Its just a random thing.

Maybe cross-domain scripting is not permitted in your server (due security reasons or anyting)? Regards, <> Last edited by anon-e-mouse; 09-10-2008 at 09:53 PM.

Hello, The Uploader folder is a 777.Also, this server was fine for 5 months, then all of a sudden yesterday it just started doing this.

I am really stuck here.I think it may have something to do with my local machine since I can now upload to youtube fine but I can now not even login properly to my own admin part of my website.

Hello Progress...I got it to let me finally get to try and upload. When I select a file and press upload it uploads then stops at 192K and then about 400 "Error: uncaught exception: Permission denied to call method Location.toString" come up in the error console until it times itself out... I looked through loads of net sites for this but nothings worked so far

Whenever something funny starts happening with a server, I would start with the basics, even if it does not seem to make sense that it may be connected. Check the disk space, memory usage, and other server functions. If those check out, move on to checking the process list for strange programs running, or other evidence of hacking. Check the temp directories for strange hacker related files. Check the logs for strange login patterns, and the access logs of your sites to get an idea of what people have been up to. Also if you have any applications installed on your site, make sure you keep them up to date, so check versions to make sure they are current. You can check your site's directories for the most recent changed files, and see what changed in them or if they are new. Somewhere along the line you should discover something about what is going on.

I hear you...its between 2 servers since one converts the videos and the other stores the videos so its going to be a tricky task, hence me needing the help.....

Looked all over, no hacking issues, and Service Provider cannot find anything either....

Perhaps bandwidth throttling, or disk space quota, or firewall timeout's set for persistent connections?

Posted by gemasis, 09-12-2008, 08:17 AM
HI! its not bandwidth throttling, I have a 25MBPS server and reasch about 15MBPS at most for now, also I have 6000GB quota and its not even at 15% for the month. Also, I have 3TB of disk space and have used only 300GB so far. I think it`s a flash issue. I tried on all 5 of my machines here and it gives the "Error: uncaught exception: Permission denied to call method Location.toString" message, just by opening up the site. I downgraded all the flash on my machines and its still not working. How do I check what version is on the server? Any ideas?

Permission denied typically means that you're trying to access a file with the wrong permissions. Make sure that all files in your web root are owned by the correct user and have executable permissions if they're scripts. Look at the source code for your index page and see what files it's trying to open. Have your host check the apache error log and suexec error log for issues while you hit refresh on the site.

Hi, I had had the provider make sure all the permissions and ownerships were correct and they are. I still cannot access particular areas. So I have asked the script developer to re-send the original core files and re-upload them. I will then see how that goes since its leaning more and more to files being corrupt than anything else. I now cannot even access my own admin section... Regards

If you are leaning towards corruption, then you may want to consider rebooting and doing a file system check. During a not so busy time, you may want to run: shutdown -rF now which will reboot the server and force a disk check. The only issue is that if the server is remote to you, and you are not there to watch the console, then if something was seriously wrong, then you would have to get someone to login to the console to handle any prompts that come up. Depending on your drive setup, you should be able to run some drive diagnostics, either with some proprietary RAID system tools, or perhaps even just generic smart tools. Though I question what kind of disk subsystem you are using with a 3TB quota... With that possible issue aside, have you tried accessing your system from other locations to make sure that it is actually a server issue? Really the first place to check on server would be the source of the error, such as the file that results in that error, find the file it is looking for, and verify that it is there. Not sure what else to suggest without more information.

Do you have a dedicated web server, or are you on a VPS, or shared?

Posted by gemasis, 09-13-2008, 06:30 AM
Hi, Good points. I already had the system rebooted 4 times on off peaks, and had 3 people, 1 from UK, 1 from US and 1 from Singapore access the areas of the site and they all got different errors but ultimately couldnt access the areas to upload or even to admin. I am close to throwing in the towel. I will try get someone to run the diagnostics...

All servers I have a dedicated good sir.
