Question about Charging someone

Posted by detroitrap, 08-23-2001, 07:08 PM
If i charged someone monthly for webhosting do I run there card that day and in like every 30 days i do it again?

There must be another question to this? Yes, it would be run every month, though I'm not sure if your question is actually, "Would it be run every 30 days or would it be run on a specific day (like the 1st of every month)?" You'd ideally like to have a system set up where either you submit the batch for that month, or have some sort of interface which would automatically rebill the client every month.

No i think your getting my question wrong. I got a online service were when i send a credit card number they charge the account that day and send me the check in the mail for a small fee. When its in the middle of the month should i charge the day they order or wait to the first of the month to charge. Would i wait like 30 day to charge again when would i kno to charge again from the first time i prosseced there credit card

I see what you're saying now, although after your first post, I felt just like Chicken did. I think most people charge at signup, and everyone ends up with different anniverseries.

what do you mean anerversies (charge day??) Should wait 30 days after sign up to charge a person that signs up that day?

I get you now. Well you could do it either way, the way that works best for you. You could prorate the first month (remaining time) and then start full billing on the 1st of the month (or whenever it is convenient for you), or start the cycle on the day they order (so if they signed up on the 23rd, they would be billed on the 23rd of every month). What is the processor you are using? Just wondering...

I think he meaans... Say they sign up on the 5th. He wants to know should he charge then for 30 days or wait 30 days then charge. IE: Does he charge 30 day advance or after 30 days of use.

Then. and Advance.

What kind of payment cycle would you do if somone ordered on the 5th you couldnt just pay then and again in 30 days. Not every month has 30 day in it so how would you know when to bill them for the new month?

I just bill on the day they sign up. I may change this now that I think about it. Just doing it all on one day sounds great.

You'd bill them on the 5th of the next month. You don't bill them every 30 days, that would be impossible keep track of. You either bill them every month based on the day they sign up, or you pick a covenient day for you (like the 10th of the month and bill everyone on the 10th, every month). I think I do get some of your confusion. If they sign up on the 31st for example, it is impossible to bill them every month on the 31st, as 5 months do not have a 31st day. Just bill on the closest day (30th, etc.)

I dont know if this is the same with other people, and am sure it must be, but in Worldpay you can setup monthly direct debits etc
