Port 80 issue

Posted by Courtix, 09-15-2008, 12:47 PM
Hello, When I try to start winftp in IIS I get an error which i found it says something else is using port 80. Now when I try to use any netstat commands in run, the window opens and closes instantly before I can get the info on whats running on port 80. Any ideas how to stop it closing or another way around finding whats using port 80? Thx Simon

Run cmd.exe, then type in netstat.

Thx, I get this error from IIS when trying to start FTP as it says stopped: 0x8ffe2740 Now after research this says something is running on port 80. Now there is nothing showing running on port 80. Any ideas?

are you using port 80 for FTP instead of port 21? if that, i think the error might cause is you web service using that port too ^^ you should change your FTP port to another port and this error maybe be resolved

I would suggest that you make sure that you do not have any infected or trojan applications. I would be very worried if I tried to run a FTP application and it tried to use port 80. Perhaps I do not understand though, how do you start winftp in IIS? IIS is a web service application that runs on Windows, so I guess I get a little lost when you say you start winftp in IIS.

I live in the linux world, so perhaps I really do not understand the application structure of IIS. Looking at the pictures, I must admit, I do not understand the logic of how it is setup. Perhaps a well versed Windows server administrator might be of better help.

I'll start at the begining, Im playing with plesk. When I setup hosting with a domain i get FTP error. This error points to FTP not running in IIS, Now when I go into IIS, FTP says Stopped. So right click and start gives the error (image2). The port 80 info came from google the error code. But yes FTP isnt running on port 80 infact nothing is. Also its windows 2003. Hope this helps, and thx for trying

can you expand the content of Default FTP Site? i think you should run cmd.exe and restart your IIS by this command: iisreset /restart then run your IIS Manager again. then browse the content inside Default FTP Site and start your FTP service from that (not from Default FTP Site). (sorry i don't remember the name of the content inside )

I restarted and same thing. Default FTP Site doesnt expand theres only the image of the world in there. Same error when I try to start. Any ideas?

There's an small program called fport which gives you pid number, api name, port, protocol and path. You can download it from www[dot]foundstone[dot]com/us/resources/proddesc/fport.htm (unable to post urls)

Ty, netstat -a, PID numbers on right too without downloading any progs.
