i am thinking of starting a reseller plan. As far as i can work out there are two real types of reseller plan. 1. Resellers simply sell your plans at a discount rate. 2. Resellers are given a allocation of space, and bandwidth and are left to configure their own plans as they see fit for a fixed montly sum. i use whm / cp3 combo so both are possible. Which of these are preffered? Does one have a greater level of administration than the other? Thanks!

I think both have definite advantages and disadvantages. I resell under your system #1. I chose this because the upfront cost to me was negligable & if I didn't sell any plans, I didn't have to pay for them. This was really nice for starting out. However, now that I know more about what I am doing & have a few more customers I think at times it would be nice to have system #2 so that I can have more control over what I am selling. I am looking forward to the day I have enough clients to justify my own dedicated server. What might be nice is a host that offers both. Maybe offering a startup plan like system 1, but also offer basically a semi-dedicated server type system where the reseller would "purchase" maybe 5GB space and the appropriate transfer amount that they can sell off as they please.

thanks for your reply xnhost. Its interesting to hear your viewpoint on having both. I'm not sure how possible it would actually be from an administration point of view. Just to clarify when i do actually now (just) own my own server. And the reseller plans i am talking about are those which i will offer, not ones that i want to purchase. thanks!

sorry this wasn't designed to be an advert or survey. i really just wanted to gather opinions from those who may have found one over the other.
