Hey Guys, I'd like your opinions (be gentle please) on my upcoming reseller plans. http://www.multiname.net/packages.html Thanks in advance. PS - The site is not 100% live, so please dont try and order just yet. Best Regards, Darrell Buckhaults

Who is your supplier for your server/s? $10.95 for 10GB Data Transfer/mth That's a bad ingredient for overloaded servers with high loads, frequent server restarts and limited revenues. Non-sustainable, IMO. You might want to price your plans a little more realistically. The object of your business is to make money, is it not?? Just my $0.02 You should have posted this into - http://webhostingtalk.com/forumdispl...?s=&forumid=10

I do more design than technical work so I'm by no means an expert- but I would agree that for the amount of disk space you are offering the bandwidth allocation seems a bit high. I've often seen plans with more than twice the space offering the same amount of bandwidth. Good luck!

Aussie Bob! The legend speaks to me It's an honor indeed, sir. (not trying to be a smart a$$ or anything - You and Gary from Dixiesys are inspirations to me!) I have been in the business for over a year now and I agree with not wishing to "give away the farm" so to speak. I'm going to build some solid servers and bandwidth is very affordable right now. I can offer those plans at those costs and still make a nice tidy profit. I, like yourself, run a debt free company. I do appreciate your opinion. I can only hope that my multiname/reseller division will be as sucessful as your business model and community. I certainly didnt wish for this to be misconstrued as the s-word (spam). I'm not even tasking orders yet.

theprimehost, Remember one important thing! Once you start you cant up your costs... So if you are planning to run a reliable service for now and into the future consider the further expanding you will need and staff and extra requirments later down the track and you will find what your charging to not to be the best. Good luck and kind regards

You are absolutely correct. Once someone locks in a price they should be able to keep it. That doesnt mean that do to inflation you dont raise costs for new customers. I dont mean to come off as defensive or anything, but I have been in the business for 1,1/2 years and have never raised my costs once. In regards to staff, I've several IT professional buddies who would love to come work for me part or full time if needed. Thank you for your advice. It is deffinately appreciated!

You can up your costs, but not for your old customers. The thing you can't do is lower your costs, unless you want all your old customers to start asking for that lower pricing as well

Isn't that the truth

Posted by Aussie Bob, 07-16-2002, 06:51 PM
Gee Good to know. Thanks. We're not "there" yet, but on the right track. Your pricing worries me not so much the amount but the amount of data transfer that comes with each plan. I'm worried that you would attract the wrong kind of users and the loads on a server like that would be too high, given the number of clients [to cover prices and make $$$$] and their useages etc... Maybe a mod can move this thread to the right forum.

I agree with AcuNett. You can up your costs quite easily for new accounts, however, reducing costs could cause you headaches with your existing clients. It really depends on how you go about implementing your price increase/decrease.

Of course you can up your costs LOL Which industry on Earth dis-allows that? LOL Webhosting is no different..... does electricity not raise in price with every year in inflation? Of course it does!! Anyone who states that they will keep the same costs forever is not a businessman or a liar...... I do not care ...... flame me

Posted by Aussie Bob, 07-17-2002, 10:16 AM
gets flame gun ready* BTW, I agree. This notion that costs can't go up for existing customers is absurd.

Thank heavens for common sense....

I agree. Why can't we up our costs when the "time comes"? Many hosts (including myself) offer monthly, quarterly, and yearly payment plans. These are CONTRACTS. If you sign up for a monthly payment plan, you are on a monthly contract and your price is only guaranteed until the next month. (Although it's unlikely to change... but my point is that this is one of the incentives to sign up for a long-term contract. So you get the fixed price.)

I've seen hosts promoting the "price fix", "no price rise for the life of your account". So they have an account for 10 years and the price will never change?? Yeah right.

Posted by EzSnake, 07-18-2002, 09:31 AM
Its just like the infamous "Unlimited everything" Your price is only "fixed till host loses money and your account then gets frozen or canceled... If there's 1 thing I learned from WHT and web hostin. "If it sounds like b*llsh*t ... it is b*llsh*t" I agree exactly with Aussie Bob and MrZippy....
