Virtuozzo Install Issues: Need Help Please

Posted by Chinese Democracy, 03-25-2009, 01:29 AM
I'm getting an error (shown in screenshot) and yum install lockfile does not return anything but 'nothing found' I went ahead with the install and doing a "skip" on this lockfile dependency warning in the meantime. Also, the Virtuozzo PIM interface / Parallels Infrastructure Manager is not loading at nodeip:4643 I did not do anything on this server but install Centos 5 64bit and Virtuozzo. I did not install any firewall nor modify IPtables, etc. I did not create a service container or such. Parallel's PDF documentation is incomplete. parallels.com/download/virtuozzo4/lin/ Installation guide: download.swsoft.com/virtuozzo/virtuozzo4.0/docs/en/lin/VzLinuxInstallation.pdf Nowhere does it tell you the *dependency requirements* or how to get PIM web gui activated properly. It does not explain how to create the *service* container either. Not even here: parallels.com/download/virtuozzo4/notes/ or here kb.parallels.com/en/1089 [root@server ~]# vzsveinstall -D /vz/template/centos -s xxx.xxx.123.1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mar 24 05:33:42 vzsveinstall: start # Full log will be available at /var/log/vzsveinstall.log # Checking existance of all required packages ERROR: Directory /vz/template/centos/virtuozzo/RPMS does not exist See log located at /var/log/vzsveinstall.log for details I cannot find anything relating to virtuozzo/RPMS (did a find/locate and got nothing). Anyone see anything in the documentations that states anything about RPMS distribution / source?

You should not need to install PIM seperately. Try simply run the web installer, which should download anything you require. parallels.com/download/virtuozzo4/lin/#download - wget the auto installer for linux (i can't post a link atm, lost all my post counts) # chmod +x vzinstall-linux.bin # ./vzinstall-linux-bin I've set up quite a few of these now on a vanilla centos installation without any issues whatsoever.

I'm confused why you're asking me to run that script to install it. That's exactly how I initially installed it. Did you use Centos 64 bit or 32bit? I used version 5, 64bit version. I used that same auto installer script and got the dependency error with lockfile and the problem with PIM pulling up in the web browser (page not found instead).

I'm also hoping someone can explain to me why the heck I get those retarded characters shown in my OP screenshot. I got the same in Secure CRT and Putty as well. One of the techs from Parallels *ridiculously* claims this is normal. Go figure.

mkdir /vz/template/centos/virtuozzo/RPMS and retry. The error will be then more meaningful Quel

add as well a yum -f install binutils* to the list of things to try Qeul

I'm a little confused why its saying this is an unsupported distribution..

Parallels is the WORST PIECE OF CRAP COMPANY to deal with! Their documenation is so screwed up and inconsistent, they corner you into purchasing installation service for a crazy $150. The hell with their installation service. Hopefully someone here can figure this out. I did a reload on this of Centos 5 64bit and re-ran the autoinstaller. I still cannot access PIM web gui. Look at this crap: kb.parallels.com/en/1089 Right side says: Article ID: 1089 Last Review: Mar,16 2009 Author: Vitaly Filatov Last updated by: system APPLIES TO: * Virtuozzo for Linux 3.x * Virtuozzo Containers for Linux 4.x Now read this: Please note - OS template 'redhat-as3-minimal' must be installed on a hardware node and cached before Service Container may be created. If you have no that template on a node please do the following: - install OS template 'redhat-as3-minimal', corresponding RPM package is located in the folder 'virtuozzo/SVE' inside Virtuozzo distrib (in Virtuozzo 3.x it is the folder 'HW/SVE'); - create OS template cache using 'vzpkgcache' command on a node. Virtuozzo 3? Redhat 3?

I still need help in installing the lockfile. I'm getting the below errors when trying to create the service container (which is supposed to make PIM accessible) even though Parallel's support team and lame documenation does not state this at all because they want $150 install fee instead. Mar 25 11:39:41 createsve: start # Checking Service Container status # Caching Service Container template Running with args : redhat-as3-minimal-x86_64 Checking: version 20080630 of redhat-as3-minimal-x86_64. It looks like its trying to create the lockfile, but can't.. Are you logged in as root?

Posted by Chinese Democracy, 03-25-2009, 07:58 PM
yum install procmail Fixed lockfile problem. Got service container installed after. I can access PIM now. New problem: Can't find any spot in PIM to install new o/s templates (not update, but install) remotely (not upload via local pc). Basically, the equivilent of vzup2date -t (but the interface is all gibberish and unreadable as my screenshot shows)

Posted by Chinese Democracy, 03-25-2009, 08:29 PM
I just realized the update section is actually the same place to install new templates as well. In the process of doing that.

I'm having an odd problem configuring CSF firewall on the *NODE* itself. I have this: # Allow incoming TCP ports TCP_IN = "20,21,22,25,53,80,110,143,443,465,587,993,995,4643" # Allow outgoing TCP ports TCP_OUT = "20,21,22,25,53,80,110,113,443" # Allow incoming UDP ports UDP_IN = "20,21,53" # Allow outgoing UDP ports # To allow outgoing traceroute add 33434:33523 to this list UDP_OUT = "20,21,53,113,123" # Allow incoming PING ICMP_IN = "1" When CSF is started, I cannot access PIM. If I stop it, I can access PIM. The port is 4643, so it should work. It says what ports should be open here for the node, and I have this right. http://kb.parallels.com/en/1070

edit /etc/sysconfig/iptables and add: create file /etc/csf/csfpre.sh and enter all the extra rules directly into it prefixed with "iptables" so the contents of that file should look something like: edit /etc/csf/csf.conf file and set (as there is no eth0 in a VPS) if this doesn't work, let me know.. You may need to update your iptables.

Posted by Chinese Democracy, 03-26-2009, 04:48 PM
Ok, but the firewall is for the NODE, not individual vps containers. Also, your method locked up my firewall/node.

Posted by Ausweb-Jake, 03-27-2009, 12:34 AM
try set: monolithic_kernel 1 in csf.conf Otherwise, you will need to adjust iptables on the host node, as the firewalls in each container are actually iptables rules on the host node.

Thanks, but I have no idea what you're telling me as your not being descriptive. Hopefully someone else can help me out with absolute assurance of what to do.

Can you please type this in console and paste me what you get /etc/csf/csftest.pl

Posted by Chinese Democracy, 03-27-2009, 02:31 PM

Odd, Do you have monolithic kernel set as 1 in the csf.conf?

Posted by Chinese Democracy, 03-29-2009, 10:12 AM
What line would that be?
