Domain Issue ??

Ok .. I tried to get some answers in the WebDesign section, but nothing good ... I want to upload a .html file that was done in Dreamweaver. It's a basic image that has my company logo and with coming soon under it.. When I upload it to my websites server and go to my website, the image does not appear. I think the problem is that mycompany.com is hosted by 2 hosts, let me explain : Since am starting a hosting biz I have a reseller account with HostGator under mycompany.com but I have a shared hosting account with InnoHosting. I did this because I want my site to be hosted on a different server than my clients, that way they can always contact me if their server goes down.. When I uploaded the site I uploaded it to the IP of my shared hosting account thru FTP.. Do you think the problem is that mycompany.com does not recognize the server were I uploaded my site too ?? Am guessing theres a conflict here,so it doesn''t know what server (either hostgator's or InooHosting's) to recognize.. Thanks in advance, -E

That's a little confusing. You must upload the image/webpage to the website that you want it to appear on. Generally, index.html (since you are using a .html file) will be the default page that your website points to. Also, it should be in your public_html or www folder.

You can always hotlink. Let's say you are on server A, but want to display said image on server B. On Server A, type in the full address to the image Should sort out your problem.

Where does the domain point to? Innohosting or Hostgator? Do a whois.sc check, and look to the IP location. If the IP doesn't match the one you've uploaded the content to, then you need to upload to the other one. Now, it may be a completely different issue. Is it just the image that doesn't load? The web page is otherwise fine?

i did the whois check. At one moment it will point to hostgators, and then at another moment it will point to Inohostings. I think I have to create a DNS zone, but its a bit confusing and I don't want to mess anything up. Does anybody else think the problem can be solved by creating a DNS zone??

Sounds as if you added nameservers from both Innohosting and Hostgator. Maybe you can share the domain here, and someone will take a look at the situation? I'll move your thread to the Technical forum.

sound more like a case you you having added 2 A records for mycompany.com at the authoritive DNS servers - either that, or you have configured the domain as being hosted by both providers and then added both providers' Name Servers to your mycompany.com registration. basically, there should be no trace of mycompany.com on any of Hostgators systems, or DNS - it should all be pointing to your Shared Account, including NS records & A Records

So do you think I should not have mycompany.com pointing to Hostgators nameservers??

You are being confusing. You need to have your website point TO ONLY ONE provider. That's it.

if your website is not on hostgator - then you shouldnt indicate that hostgator provides services (name resolution) for the domain

Yea I got it now..I think I over analyzed everything a lil bit too muchh . It's as simple as not pointing the domain to hostgators name servers.. Thanks Guys
