ACK!! If im running reseller accounts off of a linux server running cpanel and the reseller is using so much resources that i need to move he/she to there own server how can i move the resellers account, their customers, to a new server without them knowing and with out screwing any thing up... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks..

In your post you don't mention WHM, whm can move that account easily to another server within the same datacenter very easily. If IP's don't change, they wouldn't notice anything normally

The main point is to have a schedule. Cool and make a schedule of all the things u should do and of course the order in which they should be done! Write them down not just in your mind! It seems pointless but it has saved my life many times! The 2 basic things to do is to first copy-upload the files to the new server, and then if IP changes, to change the domain pointers. Even if with a simple tracert they will be able to understand an IP change, I don't think that they will pay much attention to it. If you want more help please be more specific!

last time i had moved a resold account from one Reseller hosting account to another(both on Cpanel) I downloaded the latest backup from CPanel. Transferred to New reseller Hosting. Untar it. Checked things are allright. Then changed the Nameservers. One account is ok but if multiple accounts then downloading and uploading is pain if you're connected on a slow connection. So i don't know of other faster way

Just the other night I transfered 120 domains from 6 different servers split up from atlanta to canada to new jersey. This was roughly 2.5 gigs of data and went very smoothly and I didn't download a thing, didn't tarball a thing, just root whm to root whm. The IP's needed to be changed as so there was a propagation time but their sites overlapped so there was no downtime. Now, if the priginal thread started is moving the site to another server in the same DC (Network etc), then there should not be anything they would notice other than mcdonalds just ended their buy two get one free meal

Samuel, can u tell a bit more about the root whm to root whm thingy? so that we can also benefit not so good at linux keep forgetting btw for Reseller, they don't have root access right?

www.mbshost.com/whmdocs I believe has more information, but in posting what I posted one would have to already have root access on both servers, in either case in fact. The server source, and the server destination whether it is 8000 miles away can be easily copied from each location from within WHM (Root access WHM) EDIT: Added (URL) Last edited by Samuel; 07-28-2002 at 04:25 PM.

Look at the first post, this person is stating some sort of administration duties, either billing, or technical so I am not sure what you are adding to this post? I don't see where they are stating they are the reseller, and as you can tell from my posts it is from the standpoint of someone with root, which is very easy. Yes, it is that easy for a reseller to move accounts, as I said, just contact the person with root.

no im not the reseller im hosting resellers that are reselling space off of the server.. their space and their clients are taking the majority of the resources so i want to take them from one server to a server of their own... which brings me to this... How do i do this with cpanel(im new at this)... Also another thing i just thought about,, lets say i move someone to a server and they are soon to be taking up ALL the resources how can i deal with that??? I mean my server can only hold so much, so what do i do in order to make signing in and administration as simple as possible for them? Mainly i need to know how to move accounts from one to another with cpanel,, the second senario is a far way from now but im just wondering what i would do in that situation.. any advice would be nice.. thakns,

jdp29053 since you are hosting resellers, you must have access to WHM? Right? Check the list of functions/commands available on the left column. Just browse the list. You'll find your answer. It works like a charm.
