WHM keep on asking for A record for hostname

Here are the scenarios : 1. This Dedicated Server don't have main domain name but I use something like hostname.domain.com for the hostname. 2. The nameservers I use are something like ns21.domain.com and ns22.domain.com which I registered it already on my domain registrar. 3. Domain.com is use on other Dedicated server Are these kind of setup okay? or should I really changed the hostname.domain.com to something else that is hosted on the same server? thank you

You can have the hostname, domain and nameservers any way you want. Your dns resolvers and hostname A record need to be correct to avoid this error.

any idea on what file to edit the A records and hostname from command line without using WHM? somehow I had this experience on this box that nameservers won't be added using whm. I'm using cent os

Hi, If you want to create A record for hostname then you have to create under your dns server where domain.com is created edit dns :-- domain.com hostname A ******************************************* from the command line you can edit A or DNS records ------> vi /var/named/domain.com.db *********************************** you can check hostname through this command -------> [root@map007]# hostname and if you want to change hostname ------> [root@map007]# hostname hostname.domain.com (its temporary ) for permanently ------> [root@map007]# vi /etc/sysconfig/network

Just want to verify. Dedicated Server 1 (server with no issue) - xyz.com created here - xyz.com. 14400 IN A 65.xx.xxx.xx - serverone.xyz.com 14400 IN A 65.xx.xxx.xx is setup here New Dedicated Server - No domain name - servertwo.xyz.com is setup You mean I need to create on Dedicated Server 1 the A Hostname for the New Dedicated Server something like servertwo.xyz.com 14400 IN A 65.xx.xxx.xx (New server IP) is this correct? thank you

Hi, Yes, you will have to create servertwo.xyz.com A record on dedicated server 1 because your xyz.com created under dedicated server 1 or pointed there. Secondly whenever you search or lookup any domain.com firstly it search name server (where they point) and name server point your A records of that domain. Sorry for my bad language......

Thank you very much the issue has been resolved already by creating an A record for my hostname on the server where the actual domain.com was created. I also added an A record for ns1 and ns2 on the main server too.
