How To Use The Same Nameserver Address For All Servers?

Posted by bibleman, 08-24-2009, 12:00 PM
I have noticed that some big web hosting companies use the same nameserver address for all their servers i.e ns1.domain.com & ns2.domain.com. Please I would like to know how this is done. It is kind of confusing memorizing the addresses of all my Servers. Thanks

You will need to setup BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain) on it's own server. See http://www.bind9.net/. There are other programs out there but BIND is by far the best. If you are unfamiliar with BIND, you may want to Google some tutorials or buy a book.

No problem, they also have a few paid programs out there that will manage all that for you. Can't think of them off the top of my head but I prefer BIND since it's free and once you learn it, it's like second nature.

If you're more comfortable with CPanel, then you can install WHM DNS-Only which makes things a little easier. http://www.cpanel.net/products/cpane...-software.html

Totally spaced this but DirectAdmin has a similar feature but you need DirectAdmin installed on all servers that need the DNS service, I am sure that is the same way the cPanel version works though. Just need to weight the options and choose what will work best for your setup.

Only a registrar can create nameservers at ICANN's side which manages the root nameserver. There are some registrars who will create a nameserver with the domain name for you for the domains purchased from them.

Take a look at dnscluster.eu. If you are only using Bind it will run perfectly. No matter if you are using cPanel in x servers, Plesk in y servers and/or Anything else in z servers...
