Website Access Problem 'page load error'

Posted by Tea1, 08-23-2009, 05:28 AM
Hi, I moved one of my websites to a new host approx 6 months ago (where I had my other sites already based with no major problems) it seems like lots of people can no longer access it. They can click on links, type the address in direct, click on banners etc but nothing, just page load error. On the other hand many people can get on no problem (including me from laptop, mobile, pc etc). The people with no access used to be able to view the website before the move, they use various browsers (ie, mozilla, etc), they have tried at times when I know 100% the website was there as I was on it, they have tried typing in address direct, they have hovered over links and the website address shows as correct in bar at bottom of screen, they have not changed their settings etc. All in all I would say something was changed on the website when it was moved to the new host around 6 months ago, or (more likely IMO) the new host has something on the server or firewall that is stopping some traffic getting through - I had a large drop in all visitor stats since the move on all websites, but this one website is the only one that people are mentioning and emailing about alot. I have contacted the webhost company but expect the usual 'its working at our end, prove there is a problem' reply and although I can send them links to forums and customer emails etc saying about the problem I am fairly sure they will reply with the standard 'its their machines' - this is not possible as with those same machines they could access the website no problem before we moved to the new host. Unfortuantely moving back to old host is not an issue as this website in question is very picture heavy and it was loading very slowly on the old host which was the reason I moved it to this new host who I had my other websites with. This problem only seems to happen with this one website - stats for all dropped but this one is only website customers are saying they cannot access at all. Any help or advice appreciated and sorry my first post is a 'help me' post. ADDED - If anyone wants to check the website to see if it loads for them etc, I can pm them the address as I have not put web address in this post as I dont want this cry for help to look like an advert for the website. It could possibly be a DNS issue but it's hard to know unless you post the domain. If those who can't view it are from a different country the host could have blocked access to it from those certain countries.

At first sight it seems a DNS issue, but there may be some other issues like the server you are hosted on is blocking the IP's of a certain country or a block of IP's due to some reason. PM me the domain, I can post an analysis from my end. PS : I don't think making the domain public will be an adv stunt in this case, it will be helpful if large number of members can check that from several locations.

The OP can't PM since they only have 1 post - I suggest they just post the domain publicly ... That's the idea of a domain name - so people can get to your site/hosted account

Hi, Our webhost finally accepted there was an issue and changed some DNS settings at their end (our ones were right with domain registrar) so now most people can view the website ok however some are now getting: "DNS error occurred. Server cannot be found. The link may be broken." whereas before these dns changes they got: "page cannot be displayed" I think this shows the error messages were definately connected to the dns settings and thanks to all who mentioned that. I can still send the site info if you want to check further but at least some of the people who could not see the site now can.
