Secure my mail server

Posted by Zaggs, 10-16-2009, 12:37 PM
Hi Guys, I want to create a really secure mail server (if there is such a thing these days). I want to reduce any spam coming into my server and I also want to create a good relationship with other servers so that any email sent from my server is not classed as spam. How can I achieve this? Here is my current system setup: Ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty) Mail: Postfix Control Panel: ISPConfig Tutorials, links & suggestions all welcome

Having a proxy in front of the mail server is the best i find in any solution. Firewall the server to only receive and send email to that proxy alone.

Are there any tutorials or guides how to do this?

Hi, I am in the process of setting up SpamAssassin on the server. I have installed it and I am currently learning how to "train" it. I have found the following commands to train the system: Questions: 1) How do I create the spam & ham directories? 2) How do I get SpamAssassin to filter spam into these directories? I can't get my head round this. Please if someone could shed some light on this it would be great! Thanks!

I dont use ISPconfig (yet lol...) but i would check /home/user/mail(something/emailaddress/some/dir It might be in there. As for the proxy stuff/smarthost you can check out http://www.global-domination.org/ESVA.php or pick up a third party. You can use google to send your emails as well. To run the link above you'll need to run VMware...

You can get installed the csf/apf firewall on the server to block the spammers IP address and can check the mail logs on the server to trace the spammers.

Postgrey in combination with your postfix is a excellent deflector of those one time hit-and-run spammers.
