Stuck on installing Godaddy SSL

Posted by duckxtales, 02-23-2006, 12:06 AM
Okay, so far I have done this: 1. register for the godaddy ssl certificate 2. goto my cpanel and generate a cert code that I had to paste to godaddy. 3. get an email from them for approval 4. Have them send me an email with 2 CRT files in them. And now the instructions i am given: They say copy the CRT files to a directory, but where? Does it have to be before or after public_html? How do I get to pick which directory do I want to be secure or not? Do i have to do this editing in a shell environment or through the SSL Manager cpanel? thanks, Pat

Ok, i just ftp to my site and I see a SSL folder before the public_html, and in there are 2 directories labeled CERTS and PRIVATE... And in there are files already. If I were to upload the CRT files from godaddy it would have to overwrite one of them. What should i do? And why are those files there?

You can install the certificate through your CPANEL interface. Directions from Godaddy's site Open the WebHost Manager and click "Install an SSL Certificate" on the SSL/TLS menu. You will see a screen with three boxes on it. Your issued certificate, RSA private key and certificate bundle must be pasted into boxes 1, 2, and 3, respectively. In the first box, paste in the contents of your issued SSL certificate. If the certificate file is on your server, you may use the Fetch button to copy it from the file.In the second box, paste in your private key which was generated when you created the CSR.In the third box, paste in the Starfield certificate bundle (ca_bundle.crt).At the top of the page click "Do it." Cheers! Dan

ok I'm on that page now, but when I click on the fetch buttons it says the CRT cannot be found. Also, I recieved 2 CRT files from godaddy: xxxx.com.crt and sf_issuing.crt When I open these 2 in notepad I see the key, but there is only 1 in each file. Where do these keys have to go in the 3 boxes? And since I only have 2 keys what goes in the the 3rd one?

First is the cert from the provider second is the private key created when you did, probably already saved as something.key third is the sf_issuing.crt Cheers! Dan

Funny, never occurred to me to open it in notepad, I was getting the certificate display and pasting that into the boxes in SSL install made no sense. THANKS A LOT for the post it helped me as well.
