Dedicated Server - DNS Help needed

I have created two nameservers ns1.somedomain.com and ns2.somedomain.com from my domain DNS management. Also in the domain DNS management, I have created A records for both ns1 and ns2. The domain somedomain is not hosted on the same server where the ns1 and ns2 are pointing. Now when I create an account on the server and assign above nameservers, should I create A records for ns1 and ns2 on this server DNS Zone as well?

All you need is register nameservers with domain provider and create A record for ns1 ns2 in dns zone of *somedomain.com*. That's not required.

On the account, the records should be DNS records, set the DNS records as the ns1.somedomain.com and ns2.somedomain.com. Make sure your domain that has the DNS records has the IP's setup as well. So basically, under the account the records should have for DNS: NS: ns1.somedomain.com NS: ns2.somedomain.com and the A name should be the IP of the website. This may help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_DNS_record_types This is for the account you want to set up, of course.

I have done the same thing... But DNS report shows that Your NS records at your nameservers are: ns1.somedomain.com. [unknow] ns2.somedomain.com. [xx.xx.xx.xx] Fail: No NS A records at nameservers So when I used dig from shell dig @ns1.somedomain.com accountdomain.com, I have found that in additional records only one nameserver A record is present? Now I have checked both the zone and created A records on both the server and the somedomain.com dns zone. But still seeing same single A record in additonal section of dig

You definitely need A records for your name servers, but only in the same zone as the name servers. It looks like you didn't do this based on this error. It'd be easier to tell if you gave us your real name server addresses. If your name servers are in myzone.com, you need A records for ns1.myzone.com and ns2.myzone.com in your myzone.com configuration. You don't need these A records in any other zone.

The records needs to be made in the server on which ns1.somedomain.com and ns2.somedomain.com are located. Its not necessary that the NS entries in the dns file on the server where the domain is hosted to have the correct info unless the DNS and Webserver are both the same servers. It may bring some errors while doing any DNS tests, thats all, but the domain will resolve. Use http://www.internic.com/whois.html to see exactly what nameservers that your domain is using. - Techstar
