Complete provider masking?

Posted by ukdzine, 07-29-2004, 04:24 AM
How is it possible to completely mask your reseller account provider? I mean, you can get your own name servers, but once you lookup the IP's and then lookup the IP owner your clients can get back to the original reseller account provider. How is it possible to aviod all of this and make it seem like you are really your own host? Does this work if you get a unqiue/dedicated IP or will it still be registered to the reseller account provider?

Here's what we do for our clients; 1) Dediacated IP for the main reseller account. Any lookups will go to the reseller account. 2) Server's main IP binds to an anonymous domain. 3) Mail domain points to an anonymous domain as well. 4) Personalised nameservers using the IP address in step 1. Just follow these steps and it'd be very hard to trace the company whom you are purchasing from.

Thanks net-trend. i'm glad that it is possible to do so - at least someone out there is actually providing the service that tehy should be doing for their resellers rather than know that when their resellers customers lookup the resellers address, they will find the parent company and go with them instead as this would be cheaper. Thanks.

Not a problem, hopefully you can solve your problem or have your provider tweak the way it operates.

Also email address for the server admin must not be set to an email account from a non-anonymous domain. Doing a dig/nslookup can easily reveal this info as it leaks through bind.
