Problems Uploading local Images via Mac desktop Blogging Apps - .htaccess Issue?

Hi guys, I'm new here, and really hope someone here can help me with this rather puzzling issue I have been experiencing for a few weeks now with my self hosted Wordpress Blog. I have a MacBook Pro, with a few desktop publishing clients, and these are called Blogo, Qumana, and MarsEdit, which are all basically editors, which allows me to write offline, and upload whenever I wish, however I have run into a few issues. I can add images to my posts within the clients editor from flickr, and Picasa, using html, but these errors only show up when I try to actually insert a local image from my Mac desktop (images stored on my computer). Just to note, I have successfully used all three of these clients to upload local images to a different Wordpress Blog, but get the following errors below when I try and upload local images to my own Wordpress Blog. I have attempted to add screenshots below, which detail the specific errors given with uploading to my server. Not sure if the pictures will show due to me being a new member here, but here goes.. When the error occurs, Blogo reports the following.. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4062/...b8c890ab09.jpg MarsEdit reports the following.... http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4027/...efc1b40a78.jpg And finally, Qumana, which also fails, gives the following error.... http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2760/...2e285b01f3.jpg The really strange thing is, all my permissions on my server side of things are correct, so too are my wordpress settings allowing atom, and remote publishing. Now, this is where it gets even more strange. When I write a blogpost using any of these three clients, and add an image from my Mac desktop, each client fails with the above errors, HOWEVER, the images are showing up in my server folder wp-content/uploads/2010/04, but post fails completely, no post is published at all when the above errors are shown. I can successfully upload images from my Windows laptop using Windows Liver Writer, from Symbian via my N97 Wordpress App, and Maemo5 via N900, just not managed it successfully from Mac . Can anyone help me, as I have pretty much exhausted all avenues trying to fix this problem. Not sure if relevant or not, but thought I beter mention it in case it is related. I cannot upload a desktop image from my Mac using the Wordpress browser editor either. The above was with Flash enabled, so when I tried with the simple, non flashed based uploader, it just hangs after showing me the upload worked. It hangs, and shows a white window after hitting "save all changes". So, can anyone please help me? Here is a copy of my .htaccess file if it helps? http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2737/...860ed754_o.png

Self-hosted", so not a shared hosting account? If so, what OS and webserver are you using? Find the error logs for your server and see what's there. OTOH, if it is a shared account, ask your host to investigate. Either way, a 406 error will show up somewhere in the logs and from that the server admin should be able to find out what's happening. If you're running Apache and mod_security my guess would be that your uploads are somehow triggering an overly-paranoid rule.

Thanks for your response, Im running Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2 Not sure if the hosting is shared My host has checked everything, and cannot find the issue. Would it be worth replacing my .htaccess with the one from the other wordpress blog I can successfully upload to?

OK, the WP Blog I successfully uploaded to using my desktop clients has a much different .htaccess file, which I will be trying today, so will update this post following my findings.

Ok folks, after a lot of reading, and much learning about the command lines, and code, I removed the following two lines from my .htaccess file...... AuthName nokiadna.com AuthUserFile /home/mickyfin/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.pwd AuthGroupFile /home/mickyfin/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.grp Then added the following, switching ModSecurity OFF SecFilterEngine Off SecFilterScanPOST Off After carrying out the above, everything is working correctly now. I'm still unsure which of the above two was the fix, so I will remove the ModSecurity Switch off code, and try again, but thus far, Im very happy, and mainly its due to these very forums, and the wealth of information I have found available to me within. Thanks everyone. The search feature works!

I returned to my cPanel, where I was going to try and remove the ModSecurity script I added, however, upon opening my .htaccess file in code editor, I noticed those two lines I had previously removed had somehow came back, and was showing in the very place I had removed them from. So long story short, the problem I was experiencing was indeed with my ModSecurity, so I have now left my .htaccess file well alone.
