unlimited disk space and bandwidth

Posted by janak, 04-09-2010, 01:10 AM
We are planning to provide unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth plans. [1] If we go for 100 MBPS unmetered transfer, will it be sufficient for shared hosting server? If this is not sufficient, is there any suggestion to offer unlimited bandwidth per account? [2] Logically it is not possible to offer unlimited disk space per account but put particular terms related to iNode. Do anyone know about such kind of script or recommendation to include iNode usage directly in cPanel? [3] Can we check the total CPU usage and running processes per account. Is there a way we can set an alert if certain account exceeds particular amount of CPU usage or number of processes? Thanks!

1) 100MBPS ( 1Gbps ) unmetered is very expensive. I suggest you to go with 100Mbps and 5~10 TB is enough. 2) Quota 3) Discussed HERE => http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=935312

Any other suggestions?

You don't need 100Mbps of unmetered bandwidth just to provide "unlimited" bandwidth. Most users won't even touch 10GB for their site.

ok. but how can I maintain their bandwidth usage and inode usage with cPanel? cPanel only provides facility to set disk space limit and bandwidth limit but since I am planning for unlimited, I will have to restrict in terms of inode for disk space and cpband for bandwidth.

While providing unlimited diskspace/bandwidth, you must prevent your clients from using their account as a storage space (to store movie, mp3, backups etc).

cPanel doesnt support limiting inodes, you would need to come up with a custom script to monitor and manage inode usage per account. What do you mean by "maintain bandwidth". If you are offering unlimited there is nothing to maintain, just type in unlimited when creating te accounts.

Hostgator has a developed a module for limiting inodes on Cpanel/WHM and a little bit of research should help you to achieve it. Also, unlimited disk space can be possible if you setup iSCSI for the server. However, I only think of unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth as only marketing gimmick.
