Question 1: If I’m using a download manager and I add a site to my site password manager. If I then download a file from that site using my username and password, is that not passing my details over the open internet unsecureley? Question 2: If I log into a site via my web browser that does NOT use an SSL and download a video, are my details unsecure? Question 3: If that site prompts me to enter my username & password so I can play that video online are my details secure? A good example is an adult site. Most do NOT use an SSL at log in. Question 4: How secure is Basic HTTP Authentication used with SSL? Is it secure?

Using Basic Authentication without SSL encryption, sends the username and password in un-encrypted text (plaintext) across the network, which is not secure. It's very difficult, almost impossible to "crack" SSL encryption.

SSL encryption no doubt is secure than plain text authentication. However, to say that it is almost impossible to crack SSL encryption is some sort of exaggeration. Nothing on the internet is secure. However, it is always advisable to have encrypted authentication for added security.
