cPanel new accounts created don't have the default cPanel index

How do I configure that?

When you add a package in WHM, there is an option called "cPanel Theme". Change the theme you want to.

Theme was selected as x3 but still nothing.

There is only these files in public_html .htaccess _vti_inf.html postinfo.html No index and when I go to the site, it gives a directory listing with those files.

that is correct. although .htaccess should stop that...

If you want a default index file to be copied to new accounts when they are created, you will need to add the file to the skeleton directory. Place the index file that you want all new accounts to have inside /root/cpanel3-skel/public_html Any files inside that folder will be copied to the new account's public_html directory when it is created. I hope that helps

That works. What about when I suspend an account? Should I copy anything to the skeleton folder?

Posted by LDHosting, 08-09-2010, 09:18 AM
No, you won't need to add anything to the skeleton directory for suspended accounts. When the account is suspended it will automatically be redirected to the suspended page. The skeleton folder is just so that you can have default files (for example an "under construction" page) automatically copied into new accounts when they are created.

If you are using the cPanel release version, you can edit the default and suspended page too in WHM >> Account Functions >> Web Template Editor.

Exactly, If you want to have a default inde.html or index.php file in all newly created accounts then just create the file in /root/cpanel3-skel/public_html and it will be copied all the public_html folders of newly created accounts.
