High CPU load

Posted by dlewis23, 09-13-2010, 11:45 AM
I have a VPS and for some reason apache is causing some extremely high CPU load, at least I think it is apache. My VPS load is well over 100, but nothing is really using much CPU. The server is running Cpanel, and I have attached a screen shot of top running. I have another VPS running the same config and website and its load is always under 1. Does anyone have any ideas of places for me to look and see whats going on? Thanks Attached Thumbnails

Are you sure this is load caused by your VPS or because of an extremely overloaded & oversold VPS host server?

They say the node is fine. But I'm on the fence with that because I don't really see anything that would cause a high load. I'm splitting the site over 3 servers and only 1 really has this problem.

Are the other two servers of similar spec, are they at the same or different providers? Is the high load negatively impacting your VPS? I've seen large servers hit 40-50+ and still be screaming fast, but that's with 12 SAS drives and a very specific workload.

Are you on openvz? It might not be your server. It might be other servers. I would ask them to place you on a different server.

Yes they have the same specs, same provider, but in different datacenters. When the load goes up pages do load much slower so it is effecting it. I just ran unixbench and got this. IDK much about unixbench this is the first time running it, but I'm going to guess that 19.7 is Fuc**** bad.

That's terrifyingly low, I'd ask to be put on a different node immediately... I cannot imagine how they can say the node is fine with performance like this.

I noticed that I ran an old version of Unixbench, I installed the new version one on both of the VPS's I have with them and this is the results. This is what I get on the server with the real high load: And this is what I get on the server that doesn't really have the problem: Thats a pretty big difference between 2 VPS's that are suppose to be equal. But when compared to the VPS Directspace is selling for $2 a month both are low http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showpo...8&postcount=29
