Attracting Resellers

Posted by appliedops, 03-21-2005, 12:21 AM
I'm looking to attract resellers, but the only ones I seem to get sound more like an individual looking for a smoking deal on one server, rather than a someone looking for multiple servers. Heck, I'd almost be willing to give a server away for free for a while or something to get someone in who'd let me sell more servers. So whats the best way to get resellers? What works for people?

Not sure if this is an ad or not but with a web site like that you are not going to go far. Do you even list your product offerings? -Matthew

i normally wont laugh at a host's offers but is this for real...

Heh, I wouldn't post an ad in the non-ad section. My product offerings are clearly displayed on the pricing page, but feedback on the website is appreciated. Everyone I've asked who's looked at it has thought it was OK, but I guess the sample set wasn't big enough.

You'd be suprised how popular that is. For whatever reason OSX has become relatively popular, and well - the mac mini is inexpensive and popular to colo.

I would have to agree you should really look at your site design. If you are trying to attrack resellers then your site does not match the target market at all.

Anything you'd reccomend? I guess originally I thought that good pricing would attract people, but if thats not enough, I have to do something about that.

Well there was a list of the cream of the crop reseller providers here somewhere. Look to them for what they are doing right and you will get an idea of where you should head towards. Note the site doesn't need to be flashy, look at httpme.com as an example. Ask yourself why it does well and that will be the key to your design, pricing and so on.

thats pretty interesting.

Hrm, httpme looks like its just a blurb at the top of a VBB heh. But, its not a bad idea, I'll see about getting myself a better logo and putting some more specials on the front page or something.

I think a different design would help, but I am no designer. it's not clear from the main page that you are a server and colo provider, instead of a shared hosting (website) seller. the largest thing on the page is the paypal verified logo. btw, at the top you use "Solutions fit for a Diety", and "Internet fit for a Deity...", so before I have read two sentences on your website, I am wondering if you have a typo.

heh, ok, I think I fixed that part I also fixed my typos. Hopefully I can work on some other changes to make the site look better to people.

I think we're using the term 'reseller' wrong here. Are you looking for someone to purchase WHM Reseller packages, or resell dedicated servers?

Note my comment about httpme.com's site was not about the look but the match to the market.

I'm really looking for people to re-sell dedicated servers I'm not really in the web-hosting business as much as I am into colo/servers/etc. I would do some amount of WHM/etc reselling, but I'd need to get some critical mass going on that heh.

Alright, so here we go: #1. GET A BETTER SITE DESIGN!!! You want something simple, but with more graphics. And I recommend adding at least SOME animation. #2. I cannot see ANY dedicated reseller services on your site. Only dedicated servers. #3. Well, I think you need better pricing. Although yours is standard, if you wanna get above the rest, you need better costs. Or, just get better servers, and keep the costs. Mac Mini... thats completely unsecure and uncompatible as a server!! Only Mac-lovers would get that... Well, so get a better website, that yours #1 think to consider. And lower your costs, it'll help you in the long run. I'm an alright web designer; if you want, I can design a pretty good site for you in exchange for a dedicated server. Tell me what you think...

You've seen other web hosting sites before, they have something catches a visitors attention and won't let go. Right now your website is merely listing what you have to offer.

Exactly. I mean, the navigation bar is pure text! Try some simple pictures... like a simple |HOSTING look, better than waht you have so far. the | and _ have to be thick colored line graphics... Thats what i use on my site... You usually want a pretty large website, with one color theme. Logo at top, navigational at left, content in middle. For a "corporate-like" look, i recommend that layout. The navigational-at-top look will create a more personal or fancy-designed look... Thats all I've got right now, ill post if i think of more. Also, are you still looking at this? I have a feeling he is checking this anymore.... Ah well, so much for the free dedicated server...

How does lowering your costs help in the long run? Short term I can see but in the long run money might be an issue if you need more support staff or such. So i don't get that statement.
