Posted by tihhc, 10-26-2010, 05:22 AM
Hello, I am a hosting reseller. Currently, I have ns1.mydomain.com (1.1.1.1) and ns2.mydomain.com(1.1.1.2) work very well. I just buy another reseller hosting. New nameserver ip are 2.2.2.2 and 2.2.2.3. I wish to have ns3.mydomain.com to 2.2.2.2 and ns4.mydomain.com to 2.2.2.3 I added another child nameserver in domain control panel. It works only ns1 and ns2. Please advice. Thanks.

You need to create the name servers from the hosting control panel, assign the IPs to concerned name servers and register it as name servers. Once this is done just need to add NS records in the zone files for using new name servers.

Yes. I added A record and ping works, but when I tried to change domain name server, an error message display "NameServer ns3.mydomain.com is not a valid Nameserver".

Login to your domain registrar control panel, register these nameservers and then assign it to domains.

I already created Child Name Servers for my domain name and pointing to the same IP Addresses. It still doesn't work.

how to register it?

You need to register ns3.mydomain.com and ns4.mydomain.com as name servers at a domain registrar. You can register it, at the same registrar where the domain names on your server have been registered.

Yup. sysadm2 is correct. You should be able to get the CNS set up through your registrar.

do you mean in child nameserver?

I've heard it called that before but what I meant was custom name server.

Chhit, the settings are all well. But, seems like you haven't registered the name servers yet. You need to register all the four (ns1, ns2, ns3 and ns4) name servers after contacting a domain registrar like Godaddy, internic etc. Once the domain and name servers are registered while checking the whois lookup is checked, it will show up the details properly. Below Godaddy link can be used to check it http://who.godaddy.com/whoischeck.aspx?isc=goaft513ab

Hey..I have check the registration of the name server using iptools.com Could see that ns1.titbhost.com and ns2.titbhost.com are registered. http://iptools.com/dnstools.php?tool....com&submit=Go http://iptools.com/dnstools.php?tool....com&submit=Go http://iptools.com/dnstools.php?tool....com&submit=Go But ns3.titbhost.com is not registered yet http://iptools.com/dnstools.php?tool....com&submit=Go Or if you have already registered all, better wait for sometime..for the DNS propagation to happen over internet.
