eBay reseller accounts

Hello I have been looking on ebay and have noticed all the reseller plans on ebay and had some questions. I searched through this forum and did not see anything related to ebay but if I missed it I am sorry.... Quesitons: Examples: since i am new to this forum i can't supply a link, but if you search on ebay for web hosting, reseller there are tons of them... Or any of them on eBay that say unlimited space and unlimited bandwith for only 9.99 - 24.99 a month, thats seems so damm cheap! Has anyone been using any of these from ebay with success? If so could you please point me to an auction? Thanks.

There's no such thing as unlimited space or unlimited bandwidth - When CompUSA starts selling unlimited space hard drives, let me know . I wouldn't trust hosting sold on eBay - I'd do some searching around here at WHT and find a reputable provider.

First off, do you really need unlimited space and bandwidth? There are plenty of resellers who can provide an honest service that will not dissapear overnight for that price range. People seem to be over obsessed with saving money, you can save money today and then loose a ton of your valuable time when the host dissapears, you loose data or deal with tons of downtime. I'm sure saving the time and headaches isn't worth going with the cheapest operation in the planet. Hosting operations cost money and well trained humans to operate them. In other words, there are hundreds of con artists overselling servers on ebay. Very bad idea

How is bandwith calculated? I have one site that averages about 60-75 hits a day right now that I want to add to my reseller account once I do open one, just curious it that one site with that traffic would use in a month...

What are the sizes of the web pages being hit? Multiply that average number by 60-75 and 30 or 31 for the number of days in a month.

extremely minimal, it really depends on how many images and the size of files your page has. I would guess its using less then 10gb a month unless you are serving large images or media files.

Probably just 2GB or 3GB per month, or smaller depending on the size of the pages.

How is transfer measured? Formula: page size x page views X 30 days=Bandwidth Transfer Page sizeuppose you have 10KB of text,60 KB of gifs would equal a per page size of 70K. Page views: you have 60 vistors that look at 4 pages per day equals 240 views a day. 70x240x30(days)=504,000 kb or approximately 504 mb, of bandwidth each month. If you want some heartache and break shop ebay hosting

I am not going to debate the unlimited issue here because that is not what was asked. To answer your question go here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...504930892&rd=1 You will not be disappointed with this company. Call the phone number and have a chat with them.

I signed up about a year ago with one of these companies through ebay, just out of curiosity, and let me just tell you one thing, STAY AWAY FROM THEM! They ended up shutting down my site because of lame excuses. Just go with a normal host that offers enough bandwidth/space (that suites your needs) and you will not be dissapointed. Best of luck to you.

let me just tell you one thing, STAY AWAY FROM THEM!" Not true, there are some (me included) that offer a low price and have reliable service for their customers. But there are MANY who do not give their customers good service. Let me tell you this, if it wasn't for a BAD Ebay provider (a company supposedly with "INTEGRITY"),my first host, I would not have learned all the right things to do or what to prevent on my systems. "let They ended up shutting down my site because of lame excuses." Sorry to hear that happened. "Just go with a normal host that offers enough bandwidth/space" The best thing is always do research to narrow it down for yourself, just because a host is advertising on Ebay shouldn't count him/her out. Let me say this, whenever you buy a product (hosting included) you really dont know what you have til it arrives and you open it up, in this example, signing up with a provider and try their service.

Seriously, with the unlimited reseller accounts they sell on eBay, it makes people wonder why can't we host the entire internet off one of those accounts...

Hi there Michael, I think there is a minor misunderstanding. I was referring to the hosts that say "UNLIMITED EVERYTHING FOR $12/Year" ... I have put up my hosting services on ebay as well, so I wouldn't be putting down ALL hosts that do that.

90% of what you'll find on eBay, as far as web hosting services, are complete scams or web hosts doomed for failure. If you value the livelihood of your website, avoid eBay hosting plans at all prices.

That URL goes to an auction for fatnetworks. I signed up with them, via ebay, about 18? months ago. THEY SUCKED. The server they put me no did not even come close to meeting the specs guaranteed in the auction, downtime was constant, support rude. That experience lasted about 2 weeks. Then, I went with a DIFFERENT "unlimited space and bandwidth" host I found on ebay...same problems. Except they were polite, but the kid was like 13. I'd IM him during the day (because the server was down) and he'd say things like, "My teacher is looking over my shoulder so I can't chat right now. I'll email you when I get home from school." It was funny. But not cool that they couldn't keep their servers up. I'm guessing that whoever suggests fatnetworks is a good host either works for them or has never hosted with them. It's been a while since I tried them, but they are running their same old scam on ebay, so it does not appear that they would be able to improve their services. The first reliable hosts that I've been able to find AND afford are hostgator.com and unifiednet.net If you go with one of those two, you'll be in good hands. [/QUOTE] I am sorry you did not have a good experience with them. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. But your above statement is incorrect. I am not affiliated with fatnetwork in any way not do I work for that company. And yes I have used them for services. 18 months is a long time to get things straightened out and I believe from my experience with them that they have got things straight.

This is one of the funniest things I've heard, LOL. What was the name of the hosting company the 13 kid ran. You really made my day, thanks.

the story made me chuckle, but I think some minor things on that is untrue. 1. how can the kid be 13 when you need to be 18 to put things on ebay. 2. how can the kid be 13 when you need to be 16+ to have a credit/debit card to accept payment. it might well be true but its just the way you wrote it that seems to be un true. and yes i know that they could just use there parents CC but common i dont think they would glady let him/her use it.

Hey, long before I was of "legal age", I was subscribing to record and tape companies, charging catalog orders to mom and dad's credit cards, and also had plenty of money of my own. Ebay wasn't around back then, but you can bet I would've been ALL over it. The company name I was referring to about the teenagers running the show is speeddrives. Check out their website. I didn't want to degrade them because I can appreciate what they are trying to do and think that someday, as they learn, they'll figure out how to keep their servers up and can possible be a good company. They used to have an "about us" page on their website. They were open about the fact that they were just kids.

I got what I thought was a really good deal on eBay for 19.95 a month. It wasn't. I keep it now for an experimental account but I'm getting ready to shut it down. AlteredSanity was probably with them as they're a host with "Integrity" in their name. They need to take it out as they really don't have any. The original owner was fine, I had no problems with him and we had a symbiotic relationship sort of. I kept a hawkish eye on the server and alerted him whenever something cropped up. Then I guess he got tired of it and sold the company on eBay. The entity who bought it was ok at first, then a big crash happened and a data loss on a large scale occured. Both the server and its backup were lost. Needless to say, my customers weren't happy. They recreated the account and thankfully I had enough sense to back things up on my own. Little did I know that this was a glimps of things to come. Then the games started. First they put limits on the disk space I could use. I guess they didn't think I would check the cPanel of the reseller account every now and then, but I do. I was limited to use 1 gig. That's not unlimited is it? I don't think so. I badgered them in to taking it off and finaly they did. I just checked the cPanel or the reseller account again. Now they put limits on the number of databases, email accounts, subdomains and parked domains and addon domains I could place. I had a long talk with one of the renta-support members and it seemed to me that they didn't know a damn thing or they were feigning stupidity so I would give up and leave them alone. They gave me a line saying that if I ever got that big I would have to think about getting a dedicated server. I have one now and it isn't with them. Since they played games with my account I can't trust them not to play games with a dedicated I get from them. Integrity my ***.

Yes I was I agree, he was good to work with and never had a complaint Yep, from what I've heard, its been sold 3 times now I was limited to 10GB on my UNLIMITED account and my bandwidth was capped also. I dont offer any unlimited, dont want to mis-lead anyone.. I think they got paid by how many tickets they could close. If I had a ticket open and it still was resolved EVEN after they said it was, they would close it. LOL, they told me same thing !!!! I now have a couple servers and NONE with them. Like I said before, if it was for the bad service and support from them..I wouldnt know all the right things to do now!! Always check out the host's support and reliability the best you can when looking for a new host, thats why I now offer $1 plan (closest to being free) just for that fact, for 30days and it seems to work. Dont go with things that sound un-real and back to the subject of the thread, Just be careful when buying from Ebay, if it sounds unreal it is !
