It depends on where you are convenient to work with. I prefer CentOs as it is stable.

Personally, I like FreeBSD better, in my experience it's more stable and lightweight. However for the standard cPanel/DA hosting platform, my choice would have to be CentOS due to compatibility issues.

Neither, Debian.

With cPanel you can't use Debian.

I'd recommend CentOS, but it really depends on what else you are doing and running on the server. CentOS is also much more common for webhosts that use control panels like Cpanel.

CentOS hands down, although Ubuntu is another good alternative.

Just throwing this out here but historically the number of root exploits in the kernel for FreeBSD is much, much, much less than Linux. However, if you plan on using cPanel keep in mind that eventually far down the road they will phase out FreeBSD support and you'll have to switch over to something else... sigh! In my opinion, FreeBSD handles large volumes of traffic better than Linux... there's a reason most of the DDOS protection providers started off with FreeBSD/NetBSD boxes for filtering. Hotmail also used FreeBSD prior to Microsoft taking it over and Yahoo! also used FreeBSD heavily. I won't turn this into a Linux/FreeBSD debate, but if you've never used both and probably need a lot of hand holding then go with CentOS simply because the community is larger and probably friendlier.

I love FreeBSD! I say FreeBSD.. You can always use DirectAdmin on FreeBSD!
