Newbie Review: Bliksemhosting

Posted by tarzanna, 12-29-2005, 02:58 PM
I've gotten so much fantastic information from this site that I figured it was about time I contributed. I've been with Bliksemhosting for almost a year now. I have their BR-3, Shared Reseller plan. As this was my first experience with reseller hosting, I can't really compare it to other reseller providers. However, as someone who has used many other web hosting companies for regular, individual plans - I can say that Bliksemhosting is a fantastic provider as far as service and reliability. I design small-scale websites and, until I found Bliksem, had just set my clients up with hosting from various other companies. Once my clientele base increased, I figured it would make more sense to host them myself through a reseller plan. Having no experience with server administration or managing hosting services, I felt a little intimidated by the prospect and researched reputable providers that offered management services as well as great support. When I first signed up with Bliksemhosting, I had tons of questions as everything was new to me. Not only were they incredibly patient with my inexperience, but they always responded to questions or concerns in a polite, timely and easy to understand manner. That was a huge bonus for me as I have little to no patience for programmers, hosts or any other IT-related personnel that talk down to you for not understanding how something works. Aside from the outstanding customer service, I've found the server I'm on to be very reliable. They always email in advance if there will be any scheduled downtime or updates made. In the past year, I think there has only been one or two unexpected downtimes (so insignificant that I'd have never noticed if they hadn't emailed afterwards to explain) and even the planned ones were in off-hours and I'd never received a complaint from any client. However, as already mentioned, the sites I host are small-scale and mostly static, so I couldn't tell you how my server plan would perform for a larger, more dynamic site. Just a head's up for those needing something more powerful... Their costs are incredibly competitive for the features they offer and, now that I'm a little more comfortable with it all, am thinking of upgrading to one of their VPS plans so I can implement my own webmail system for clients. All in all, I highly recommend these guys - especially to people just starting out in reselling and looking for a company with great 24/7 customer support. Can you provide your website to verify your review?

Posted by tarzanna, 12-29-2005, 03:11 PM
Sure - it's in my profile but here it is again: http://www.tarzannadesigns.com

Duh...sorry, I'm an idiot. Thanks for the review though! Keep us posted down the road also.

Great review!

That kind of service is becoming harder and harder to find with web hosts. A host that provides that truly has dedication for excellence. Good job Bliksem Keep us updated, thanks for the great review.

According to whois history, you switched to them in September this year?

TarzannaDesigns.com is my business site. When I signed up with Bliksem for reselling, my .com domain still had 8 months of hosting left with ICDSoft, so I registered the domain tarzannadesigns.net to use with Bliksem. As mentioned in my review, I signed up with Bliksem so I could start hosting my client sites (which I've been doing since January '05). In September, the hosting for my .com domain expired with ICDSoft (who was also a really good host...though offered less features), so I parked the .com domain at my .net domain. If you view tarzannadesigns.net (and...*smile*...do a whois look up), you'll see that it is the same site as tarzannadesigns.com and has been registered with bliksem since January. Heheh, I actually like it that people are so suspicious on this board...it ensures that you've a better chance of getting accurate information. Even so, if you're going to play detective, you could also have gone one step further and done a whois on the various domains in my portfolio to see that a few of them have been hosted on the Bliksem servers since January. Hope that puts your mind at ease....

Though you state previously in the thread when asked for your site to verify the review: So what did you expect people would do? Spend their time going through your site and note every domain of sites in your portfolio? Plus, it is part of the mods' job to "play detective" as you put it but not to be psychic.

Woa! I didn't mean that to sound snotty (hence, the ample use of smiles). I was being playful! I completely understand the need to verify information in reviews. Yes, I should have just initially put in the .net domain in the review to eliminate any possibility of confusion but frankly...I'm so used to using the .com domain that I forget the .net counterpart half the time. Also, it never occurred to me that it would be an issue. My mistake. I'll be sure to specify more clearly next time.

Hey, we're a cranky and suspicious bunch, you'll have to do better than one actual smilie and a *smile*. Hehehe. No hard feelings here, sorry also to have come off a bit cranky. Great review overall. They seem to be a rising star around here.

No apology needed....I was the big dork in this case. I'm sorry to not have been more clear in it all (and also for my failed attempt at teasing with the detective remark - reading back on it now...it *does* sound like I'm flipping attitude). I think it is awesome that you folks are so thorough in following through with these reviews. I'll take cranky and suspicious any day if it means getting reliable information. As for Bliksem...yeah, I think they're doing a terrific job. I've been working with their support quite a bit recently because I've been wanting to find a more attractive webmail solution for those clients of mine who use webmail exclusively. I installed something that ended up taking up 100% of the CPU and their support wrote me to let me know they had to stop the culprit script. They weren't rude or mean about it at all and have actually been working with me in trying to find an alternative. I've also had an issue in the recent past where one of my client's had copyrighted materials on her site (*sigh*). Bliksem contacted me when they received the complaint and were incredibly patient while I tracked down that client and had her remove the materials. I know there are a lot of good, reliable hosts out there...but it is the efforts Bliksem have made to work with me on a personal, one-on-one level that has impressed me the most. I don't feel like just another number. Of course...one of my secret little fears is that they'll get too popular, grow too fast and then be unable to provide the same level of personalized support....but so far that hasn't happened.
