Informing clients of hosting transfer

I am will be transferring my reseller account to a new company this week. Do you recommend telling all your clients (accounts) that you are moving their hosting account to a different server? If so, what info should I all include in this email?

I think it would be a good call to notify them of the move just so they are aware of any potential downtime which may arise. Include information such as expected downtime, where your moving and the reason for the move. This will ensure that you don't get a bunch of emails as soon as the sites are down (provided you are within the allotted time stated in your email).

I'm moving to a different company due to the poor support I'm getting from my currrent hosting company. Downtime hasn't really been an issue - so my clients are unaware of any problems. Maybe I'll just say that I'm moving their accounts to a different server because I want to improve the Tech Support????

HOLY COW! i wish i got an email regarding the move i've been going though this past weekend ... i could have prepared! give them a chance to back things up ... get ready to deal with their customers ... etc ... and send them email ... don't assume that everyone logs into your forum or help system jsut in case there is a message everyday.

remeber, the user could have a ton on emails on the old server, and use IMAP for there primary use for email. If you moved them and they didnt know, they could loose all there emails. you really should of give some notice, at least 14 days if not 30.

How would they lose their emails? Wouldn't they all get transferred over when I do the full backup in CPanel?

never assume flawless operation. a server migration 2 weeks ago at my host made a bad mistake. in the move from server a to server b ... they took all of server a's files and moved them the serever b. 2 weeks later, in preparing to do the swap, they decided to synch up server b with server a's most recent changes ... but dues to operator mistake, they took server b's 2 week old data and placed it on top of server a. i log in to my tools and the past 2 weeks of orders/records are wiped out. i log into sql ... the past 2 weeks are missing. i'm like what the hell???? now ... if they sent me an email the night before the move ... i could have made a back up and put those hot little files right on my desktop. see my point? it wouldn't make it OK ... but I would be ready. never assume it will be flawless. i'm triple careful when it comes to my DATA Last edited by blackmako; 02-06-2006 at 05:19 PM.
