Howdy! Has anyone experienced success with any of the "Unmetered* Reseller Hosting" offers found on Ebay? Thanks! Lyte *By unmetered I mean they give you unlimted space and bandwidth.

Good luck! There is no such as unlimited space and bandwidth.

Hi Lyte, Those EBAY biddings I have heard quite alot of issues with them. There are quite many horror stories as the server will not be able to handle such resources the ebayer offers for a fraction of the cost. Although it is possible their revenue streams must come from two different sources and have a business plan that will work with the current promotional plan. Therefore, I would check if the company is reputable by checking how long has it been in business? (Most are fly bys), are they incorporated?, do they pay taxes?, what forms of contact are there?, finally forms of payment accepted is is paypal? (if paypal its much easier to get a paypal account compare to a merchant as a business license / bank account are required as well as DBA forms filed by the county). Those are key points to check before making your overall decision.

Go and buy one of these "unlimited" accounts and upload 40 gig in files maybe add some nice linux distro mirrors. Then you'll see how unlimited suddenly has limits.

they just invented an unlimited harddrive..in all seriousness, there are usually a lot of strings attached. there are some offers that are unlimited but may, for example, require you to purchase products which they upsell you etc., Its just better to avoid and go for a host whose overselling responsibly.

Lyte, I know someone who bought one of these packages, just to see what would happen...things were not good. Even though my friend stayed within his usage limits (those stated by the hosting company itself), his account was shut off after the second day. You can find many threads right here on WHT where other folks have tried this as well. The results always seem to be the same. So I do not recommend wasting your time even considering the purchase of one of these plans. You will do much better to spend your money elsewhere.

Howdy y'all, Thanks for the quick responses! I did get one recommendation from another forum user (on Name Pros) who said the hosting company (service and support) they found on Ebay was good! So, I signed up... zoned out for 'bout three months... and now that I'm ready to transfer my sites, they won't respond to my request for tech support. Grr! Anyway... I just wanna find a place where I can settle for a time but NOT pay through the nose for resources I don't yet need. My forum is growing... I have a few other sites up and running already... and I'm adding more each month. Lyte

Why don't you just go with a provider that has several packages available. You can pay as little as possible for ressources you'll actually use, and when the time comes when you need more, you simply upgrade your package with your current host.

Do you mind sharing the named host in question?

Posted by Lyte, 07-19-2006, 10:34 PM
Sure. It was Premium Reseller. I'll type something up with details. I keep getting this error message that said I can't use vb codes unless I have 5 posts. What's that about? I can't even quote the previous post?? Lyte

Posted by Duport, 07-19-2006, 10:56 PM
You need 5 posts to use those features, the same goes for URL's premiumreseller.com?

Posted by Lyte, 07-19-2006, 11:06 PM
Here ya go... Yes, Premium Reseller com I thought I'd put my account of what happened where it belongs. Lyte Last edited by Lyte; 07-19-2006 at 11:11 PM.

Yeah, FatNetworks has a plan on Ebay. It's really good! Its a Quad Xeon 2.8 x 4 with 1gb of RAM. And it's only 24.95 a month.

The whole quad xeon for 24.95 or are you a shared on there? My recommendation, generally speaking, is to generally shop for hosting elsewhere (not on ebay). There are a lot of good hosts here, for example, that can get you started.

Yep, he's on a shared account; he bought a plan from them.

Well this certainly hasn't died down. The ebay auctions for perfected hosting solutions. Personally, I wouldn't touch any provider on ebay with a ten foot pole. I agree with SSHocker, most if not ALL plans found on ebay will list as "unlimited"...well to make this short and sweet, don't go ebay for hosting. If indeed you do, let us know how it turns out.
