Me too -- WHM/cPanel + fast network

Hi all, I'm also looking for the unattainable... hosting provider with a super fast connection, and who allows ssh on WHM shared sub-accounts, etc Can anyone suggest where I can get shared hosting with: ~50-100+GB disk ~200-500+GB bandwidth WHM/cPanel + SSH on sub-accounts RAID or SAN disk setup, 4GB ram, SMP FAST top tier connections $50-100/mo I'm building several websites, blogs, a video production service, and need reasonable bandwidth. I also need performnce for PHP-based CMSs and databases. I also DON'T want a dedicated server now (want managed) but will switch within six months if all goes well. I'm very inclinded to go with a _big_ company (with a big technology budget) so when that time comes it'll be easier. My head is spinning! HostGator.com has good stats (RAID, 30+GB worth of net to Global Crossing, UUNET, AT&T, Level3, AboveNet, Savvis, etc.) but they absolutely won't let me SSH into sub-accounts. We've talked but they're holding their ground. Ssh into WHM sub-accounts is not something I'm willing to give up. Virtual Hosting is out of the question for performance reasons. One problem I've been having with provider is that when I run a CMS system files get created by httpd (nobody). When it comes time to change a config, move a site, etc, my login can't chown or chmod these files (I have to request support for this.) HostMonster cliams that their web server runs a way that solves this problem (but they don't offer WHM/reseller accounts). Granted I can workaround this via a httpd/PHP-based file manager, or FTP, but it feels like a boxer going into the ring with his hands tied. Opinions? (Of course, with dedicated this is moot.) Any suggestions for a provider? Thanks in advance! -Jazzz

VPS would be a viable option or, if you have a higher budget, a low-end dedicated may be something to pursue. You may be able to get more for your buck if you're willing to go completely unmanaged.

You're really at or beyond the limit of most decent reseller accounts with that disk space and transfer. Might be worth considering lowering your requirements to give you more options (perhaps in combination with a second shared account for video downloads?) until you're ready to go dedicated. Pity. That would be a requirement for me too. Not long ago HG didn't offer SSH at all, perhaps they're coming around... CPanel / WHM accounts are virtual hosting. Performance is generally ok from good suppliers but you will be shut down if your sites are too resource-intensive. Or did you mean VPS? Performance could indeed be an issue there if your sites need processing power and memory. You may want to look for a reseller host running PHPsuexec - PHP runs as your own user, eliminating this problem. HTH

I agree with others.. Those specifications suit a VPS and by the looks of your budget, you should be able to afford one... Check out the VPS offers section for some potential hosts

What you should do is send an email to the providers in short list and specify your requirements. That way you will be sure that they can offer what you want or not. You will definitely need a custom reseller package.

I disagree, with your bandwidth and access requirements it may be best to go with a low end dedicated server.
