SSH, MySQL 5+, PHP4&5, cPanel

Does anybody know of a reseller host offering *all* the below, it seems a hard beast to find... 1. SSH for both the reseller account, and all customer accounts, without having to go cap in hand and ask for it to be enabled for each and every account, I don't care if it's jailed, but my clients and I are more technical users than most and really do need it. 2. MySQL 5+ - my current and execellent host only offers MySQL 4, some of my clients really could use 5+ 3. Both PHP 4 and 5 on the server, suexec'd - this should be easy now for any cpanel host with Easy Apache 3 now out and about 4. cPanel/whm - for consistency I can't accept any other 5. decent reputation and high spec'd servers with raid and regular backups - I need excellent reliability, fast support and a decent backup plan when things go bad

I think the bottle necks will be Mysql5 and Shell access. There are many hosts offering both PHP4 and 5, but I haven't seen much running on Mysql5. Did you get a chance to look at the offer section? And most reputable host will ask you for some phpto ID proof for enabling the shell access. By the way, how much are your disk space and BW requirements?

You may need to explain this to the host but it may be feasible. Of course you're going to need to be responsible with it making sure you don't give SSH to some client who then in turn abuses it. Then your host may want you verify each SSH account for you if that's their standard policy to begin with. This is pretty much standard now I believe, however I guess there are a few stragglers around still. But for the most part almost everyone should have it, but always a good idea to ask and make sure they're running mySQL 5. Easyapache 3 may be out in the release form right now but it's not near stable yet. cPanel right now is saying it won't hit stable until November 21st now. So I think you're going to find most hosts are still running PHP4 + PHP5 with it being a custom job opposed to automated with cPanel. But there is nothing wrong with this obviously. Easy one, obviously just ask the host if they don't specify. Reputation that's easy searches on webhostingtalk of course. Now for higher spec'd machines, well that does not mean it'll be a solid experience still. If their specs are double what they used to they may just put double the # of accounts nulling the whole higher spec'd anyways. For backups most hosts do backups of course, but I'd also recommend you make backups and tell your customers to do them as well from time to time. Maybe something really bad happens with the host and they have a breach of even their backups that were off site and supposedly were secure. Always good to not just rely on the hosts backups you just never know what might happen. Best of luck with your search!

I would suggest getting a VPS or a small dedicated server if you would like this amount of customization. It may cost a few dollars more but you will be less limited in the long run

Indeed a VPS does seem like an easy way to end the search. It will allow you to focus on getting a good provider rather than getting features, and should your customers have any atypical requirements, you'd have the power to act, rather than be at the mercy of your provider.

A small VPS with cPanel, or with DirectAdmin, the you give shell access to the reseller group. I preferred DA before cP, much faster and need less memory.

A VPS is ideal, but that's assuming the user has the time to manage the VPS or is willing to pay for management for it.

shell access probably won't happen on a shared server but i guess there's a first for everything though, maybe jailed ssh? I would agree that a VPS would be ideal here.
