A host to replace Adakist who are closing

Posted by cyberbirth, 01-14-2008, 12:07 AM
Hi. I have today had an email from Adakist hosting to saying they are closing on the 10th of Feb so I'm on the hunt for a new reseller host. This is a shame as they have been great :-( I need to move asap as I'm about to go on holiday! I'm only a tiny reseller (host 13 very basic websites - aprox 500MB disk space total - 2GB bandwith monthly) so I don't need all the bells and whistles just a basic price for a basic service (am currently paying $US12.99 month) Can anyone make any recommendations? In certain I want a company that's in it for the LONG haul as I'm fed up with changing hosts when they shut down :-( I also need a host that will accept payment from overseas (New Zealand) - at the moment I pay by credit card via Paypal. Many thanks Sheryl

I've used xcelservers.com for about four months and counting. They're pretty reliable and their support is rock solid to say the least. Their live support answered all of my questions and they even got me a coupon. Last edited by PhantomaZero; 01-14-2008 at 12:16 AM.

That's sad to hear. I'd suggest taking a look at the Reseller Offers forum to get an idea of what deals are currently floating around. After you've found a few providers you're interested in, try doing a little research on them and contacting them directly. Good luck!

Did they give you a reason why their closing? I am surprise they are not trying to sell their clients!

I suggest you take a look at ResellerZoom. Been with them for about 9 months now with no major issues. Their Budget Plans seem to be in your Price range. Good Luck.

Does it really matter?

I am very surprised they are closing down. I'm not sure how they were doing as a company, but noticed them advertising on these forums. As for why they are closing down, I don't think it matters at all to be honest. However interesting to know where they possibly went wrong in hopes for other hosts to improve.. Just interesting information really... Are the actually closing down? Or have sold the company? On the bright side at least they did give you time to move instead of closing up shop without notice.

They must have closed down. If they would have sold out why would they ask the existing clients to move out

I didn't see a mention of them asking clients to move? But I guess if people are looking to move, they must have closed down. Last edited by rv_irl; 01-14-2008 at 05:57 AM.

Definately Atleast there were honest enough and actually gave time to their existing clients to move out. Sad that they are closing down.

I think that you have reasonable requirements, so a lot of hosters can meet them. Take a look at Reseller offers section.

If you look into Resellerzoom, I would research theirs plans and talk with their sales team about what you have and what your require on uptime and see what they recommend. Their budget plan, for one, they will tell you it is not designed for running a web hosting company as their servers are overloaded and slow and support is limited to ticket only. My suggestion - is to research WHT for reviews. You will find plenty and several companies out there that will be more than willing to help you get your account setup and clients moved over. Good Luck! Jerett

Can you tell us the domain you host with them? If you dont want to make it public, please submit it in a ticket to http://www.webhostingtalk.com/helpdesk

When trying to order I got Something's happening, that much is clear. Definitely surprising though.

Either way, i don't think it is appropriate to continue accepting new clients when there is a shuffle internally.

Define "long haul" . Seems odd that they would just "shut down" like that, without finding a buyer. There's nothing on their website to indicate they're going out of business.

Since Adakist has already sent out a notice to all of their clients, letting them know the following, I think its appropriate to say that we have offered to continue hosting their clients (the server and management was leased through us and will remain online and active indefinitely). --Tina

Well there ya go! Problem solved. Are you taking over their website and business as well, or just offering to continue hosting their existing clients?

cyberbirth, i am currently happily hosted at innohosting and have used knownhost in the past for a reseller account. both companies provide excellent service and uptime and outstanding support. give them a look. dave

Hey, I am currently on their Budget Plan for all these months. I don't about other servers but, atleast my server was never slow. Infact, my clients noticed their sites loading faster when I switched over to them. Yes, for Budget Resellers only Ticket based support but, as a point to note they do reply rather quickly and it serves the purpose. I guess there are stricter resource utilisation restrictions on their Budget servers but, so far no probs. P.S.: Sorry for replying so late. I don't know how I missed this post.

now I see what's going on.. actually we had one customer who signed up week ago and told us that he ordered and they have told him they do not accept any more orders.. it's really sad that host that is based on san diego, is going down... now I also wonder why they are closing down... We're getting a lot of people emailing asking how to keep their current Adakist account. We just need your Full Name, Domain Name and monthly payment amount. That's it. --Tina
