Sites Security certificate is not trusted

Posted by Foxy Commerce, 01-15-2013, 05:30 AM
I have a recnt problem where sites on my server are displaying an error when you go to cPanel. I have never had this issue up till today though have only had my dedicated server a couple of weeks. The error i get is "Sites Security certificate is not trusted", I asked my hosting provider about it and they said... "This server is currently using self-signed SSLs, which will generate an error in some browsers. You can safely ignore this error as it is a warning notifying you the SSLs are not generated by a trusted CA. The connections is still secure and the SSLs is functioning as intended." But if my cleints see this warning message then they are not going to be very happy are they? Any suggestions on what can be done. The one thing that seems to have changed (or I have not noticed before) is that cPanel seems to be pointing to https:// I havnt installed a new SSL certificate or anything and there is only one site on the server that actually has their own SSl certificate. Any help and advice would be most welcome.

Self assigned certificates are safe Not an issue at all however your customers do not know that so do you mean you are a reseller?

I have a dedicated server on which I host my clients ecommerce sites, however if I am getting this security error when I go to cPanel then I presume my clients are as well, in which case it doesnt look very professional does it. The main sites are fine its just when you go to cPanel.

Either you setup/buy an SSL for your hostname or disable the SSL which I do not recommend.

Well i'm not prepared to disable the SSL as that just seems completely bokers, but your other option of setting up a SSL for the hostname is a better option. Do I require a specific SSL Certificate so it can be used on all accounts? I was also looking at getting a SSL certificate that can be used on all my shopping cart sites as well to make the checkout secure but think this would be very expensive.

In WHM --> Service Configuration --> Manage Service SSL Certificates From there you can install/assign an SSL cert to your cPanel service as well as other system services, FTP, Dovecot, etc.
