Do you have experience with MM Hosting?

Posted by ImageLogic, 02-05-2008, 07:23 PM
After two years of good uptime and reasonably good performance we're leaving DWHS.NET (Domain Web Hosting) because they won't run Spam Assassin and because their server rejects status emails from our dedicated servers. We're looking seriously at MM Hosting. They have reasonable TOS for prorated refunds at any time and accept corporate checks for the annual payment. Thus far they've been quite responsive in presales and seem worth a shot. Do any of you have any experiences with these folks? Thanks, Aza D. Oberman Image Logic Corporation

Have you already checked out their uptime stats at WebHostingStuff.com and customer reviews at HostSearch.com ?

I found a review on webhostingstuff that cited a recommendation from pfcorp[.net]. Up times look excellent. The sites (pfcorp and MMHosting[.com])came up fast and the customer is happy after a year. HostSearch.com came up dry -- after a spot of trouble figuring out how to search for reviews by vendor. Our litmus test is if the vendor will accept the annual prepayment our accounting shop insists on, and has the confidence to offer a written guarantee to prorate a refund if at any time we're not satisfied. A few years ago we got burned by a New Jersey outfit called Interserver that refused to even quote additional dedicated servers and then demanded we forfeit the balance of a 1.5 year prepayment when we bought a half rack elsewhere and wanted to consolidate the dedicated they were supplying. Interserver was an odd place. It has wonderful up time and support, but every contact with the the sales and business staff made me want to take a shower. In presales discussions the MM Hosting guy (Todd Desiato) seemed approachable, rational, and confident in his services. So a reseller account seems a good way to test the water. Thanks for your suggestions. Aza

Good luck! Don't forget to come back and share the story!

I cited Todd Desiato as with MM Hosting. That's wrong. He's with ServersandDomains, another rational sounding outfit we're considering. Moe M. is the guy at MM Hosting (wonder where the name came from). Sorry for misleading the group. Aza

This is an old thread but I'm taking a shot anyhow. Considering MM Hosting myself and curious if you went for these ImageLogic or did you choose someone else? If you did hire them, what is you "review" so far? hope you see this.

We didn't go with MM. We went with a reseller account at ServersAndDomains.com because of the clustered failover scheme they offer. Indeed, they have gone four months with perfect up time. BUT, (you knew that was coming, didn't you) their email IP address keeps getting blacklisted. For at least two business days a week our emails get rejected by servers that use spamhaus to help trim out the email load. That includes the dedicateds run by different parts of our own company. It kinda puts the damper on intra-company communication. We'd been using a reseller account with dwhs.net and never had problems with our emails being rejected. But DWHS only offers challenge & verification email filtering -- the off-putting one where anyone who writes you has to respond to a challenge email before their mail will be delivered. For two years DWHS promised to install Spam Assassin for less intrusive filtering. We finally gave up when their uptime started to sag, they installed some rather novel mail filtering that rejected our daily inhouse status reports, and it was clear that DWHS really had no plans to do more than promise. We already have a few dedicateds and figure we'll dustbin the ServersAndDomain reseller account shortly in favor of a little brain dead dedicated that we'll use just for back door and intra-company email. It's probably more than you wanted to know... Cheers, Aza D. Oberman

All info. is good info. So it was not really anything "bad" that made you choose another, just that another hoster had something more/better then? And thanks for the input. Really appriciate it.

Do your research first before signing up. Try using wht search button for any reviews.

That is correct. BTW both ServetsAndDomains and MM seem to have rational TOS's. Nearly 75% of the outfits we checked out had -- umm -- "novel" approaches to the business side. We're sensitive to the business side of this hosting stuff because we once had a dedicated server provider who wouldn't respond to our request for more servers and then tried to take nearly a year's prepayment when we found the 1/2 rack elsewhere and began to consolidate. I'd recommend ServersAndDomains.com in every respect except a thumbs down on outbound email being regularly blocked and a neutral recommendation of their quirky, but commonly used, billing system. We just got through reporting that the ServersAndDomains IP is already blocked this morning. Sadly, the odds are that it will be blocked for the remainder of the business day. Don't forget, our experience with an alternate vendor sheds no light on MM's performance. As for reviews on this forum, please be aware that there are some pretty wild self-promoters out there. I remember one guy who completely flipped out when I pointed out that his TOS (Terms Of Service) included a clause that customers agree to pay him $200 any time they objected to any charge he chose to unilaterally put on their CC. He seemed to think that TOS clause was benign and popular! Perhaps by coincidence, his appoplexy was followed by a volly of "positive" reviews -- and no change in his TOS. Again, it's probably more than you want to know... Aza

Hi, I am with MMHosting.Com for last 3 months and I am very happy with their service. I have no issues what so ever with thier service and their staff is always willing to help and do the work for you. After hosting with MMHosting I have started to think that instead of keeping your own server, you should have reseller accounts (if you're a hosting seller). Life is much more earier now. I have really seen no downtime with the server and everything is going pretty smooth. I am getting what i expected for $19.95. Oh btw I used a coupon code of them which reduced the $19.95 fee to $5 for the first month. You can also use the coupon and you can test them for the 1st month. You will like it. Thanks.

For me this first account will be for personal projects only. So I planned to get a virtual web hosting (shared?) NETplus account. Have some communities and some side projects. I think thats enough for me at this time. Is reseller safer / more stable in some way? [EDIT] I might add this first account will be a trail period. If I feel "safe" enough I'll get one for my companies. So it's not for hosting buisness. Last edited by johanlm; 06-09-2008 at 12:24 PM.

Sounded like a low risk way to see if their email goes through and what the up time's like (well, one month is not enough to properly assess up time, but it's a start). My thought was to keep our existing reseller account but kick the name server to MM for a month and see how that goes. Odd thing is that the only coupon I found was the WHT25 and it is not accepted for the $19.95 reseller account. Any hints about where the coupon you used is? Aza

I have just signed up with MM Hosting, So far the support i have been given has been great. When paying with PayPal for some reason it put E-Cheque as default payment method so i was going to have to wait 10 days for it to clear. I put a ticket in and 5 minutes after they had refunded the e-cheque(Basically cancelled it) and then i could re-send the payment with my CC through paypal. About 30 minutes after re-sending the payment my account was setup. So far so good Edit: Just to let you know i signed up for the Reseller-Starter package they offer. 12GB Space, 200GB bandwidth.
