Can't access server after reboot

Posted by hardjoko, 01-14-2013, 08:49 PM
There are only 2 things that can go wrong: 1. I changed the fstab into this: I used reboot from command line. I think that's graceful reboot. However, I turned off all journalling except for boot sector. 2. When I changed the IP of the server, some firewall did refuse connection. So the server is alive and can access the internet. However, it refuses connection due to IPtables or something. It's unmanaged server and I can't even access ssh. I wonder what I should do? Nothing hosted there except some test website. I can ask for reinstall, but I just asked that 2 days before.

Hi, I suggest asking the host for IPMI. Ideally you should have gotten a dedicated server with IPMI or KVM over IP. This way even if something happens on your SSH access, you will be able to access the server. At the moment, the only thing you can do is to try and get the host to look at it for you.

In this case, DC should help you.

You dont really need to reinstall the system, you can just ask the provider to hook a KVM for you. It maybe an network issue, once you login you can configure the network script and restart the network, it should be able to connect again.

maybe the server went into FSCK?

Its sure now that you cant do anything from your end . You need to contact your provider for this

As suggested earlier, you will have to contact DC people to attach KVM so that you can view the state of your server and troubleshoot otherwise there is no other option for you to do from your side.

Have you attempted to contact your server management specialists, datacenter or host?

If it's an unmanaged server most probably they're gonna charge you for the remote hands. If the server was advertised as coming with "unlimited & free reinstalls" you can request another reinstall, otherwise you'll probably have to pay for that too.
