McAfee Secure Alternatives?

Posted by ebmasterway, 10-30-2012, 05:52 PM
I'm starting a small business and am looking for a service that will scan my server to ensure it is PCI compliant, and also just to make sure there aren't any security vulnerabilities. Since McAfee Secure seems to be popular I called for a quote, but to my shock I was told the service would cost over $2,000 per year, and this is for a small business which hasn't even launched yet. I'm trying to investigate other companies to find a viable alternative and have been looking at these: http://www.verasafe.com/pricing http://www.sitelock.com/products.php http://www.symantec.com/verisign/trust-seal Does anyone have any experience with these companies or services? Do you have any other recommendations? Appreciate your advice.

You could try Security Metrics if you're just after the PCI scanning. I think Mcafee do a PCI scan only option, which is a lot cheaper. WHMCS users get Mcafee PCI for $99.95 per year! I found this a while back which offers free Mcafee PCI scanning. http://applications.cpanel.net/free-...mcafee-secure/

Hi, thanks for your reply. I found a link on the PayPal website that gave me McAfee's PCI scanning service for free, actually The problem is that it only scans every couple of months and I want a much more frequent scan then that. It also does not allow me to use the McAfee Secure logo on my website.

As an alternative of McAfee, please have a look at offers from trust-guard.com.

My suggestion would be to choose Security Metrics or Trustwave as they offer quarterly scans.

From what I understand VeraSafe is more of a trusted/verified business program, rather than PCI. It sounds like they are probably your best best for a all around trust & business verification program (and its a bargain)... but for strictly PCI, you are looking at several $1,000 from most places. If you are just looking for the trust seal - get VeraSafe. If one of the free PCI scanners won't do it for you, then get McCafee as well as the VeraSafe seal, and your sales figures will thank you.
