My server's nameserver?

Posted by wkdlewy, 12-30-2012, 05:59 PM
I'm currently using WHMCS, everything is setup but I don't know how to allow my customers to setup their nameservers to my host? Let's say my domain is host.com, how do I setup nameservers to something such as ns1.host.com ns2.host.com, so my customers can point their domain to my host?

WHMCS is your billing/support system. What software is on the server itself, cPanel/WHM? If so you need to login to WHM, click on "Nameserver IPs" at the top left and assign some IP's, then create A records for them. Though if you are struggling to do something this basic it would be a good idea to get a management company involved, at least for the initial setup of your machine. Hello To use custom name servers, you need to get them registered as "Name servers" first ie you need to register ns1.host.com and ns2.host.com as Name servers. Once it is done, you need to edit the zone file for host.com and add "A" records for NS1 and NS2.

You need to follow below steps: 1. Go to DNS zone editor of host.com [where host.com yr main domain name.] 2. Add two A records. ns1 and ns2. Point them to your DNS IP address. Typically, it is good if you set primary nameserver and secondary nameserver on different servers and locations. It will help as disaster recovery when something goes wrong to primary nameserver server. Websites will still work from secondary nameserver. 3. Go to your domain name registrar control panel and set these two records ns1.host.com and ns2.host.com as child nameservers first. 4. Now, after few hours try to ping the nameservers and verify that they are pointing to correct IP addresses. That's it. How, you can provide these nameservers to your customers.

You May also want to have your registrar add your Nameserver host records to the foreign nameserver database so domains outside the root zone can be delegated to them as well.
