email routing to domains with specific MX : cpanel

Hello, I would like to route emails to the domains with specifix mx through our backup mail server. How can I setup this in exim with cpanel server. Eg: domain abcd.com is having MX mx.com. All the mails to the domains that is having mx mx.com should be delivered through backup mail server. I am researching on setting up fallback_hosts. If anyone can share your thought, it will be helpful for me.

Just set mail.domain.com to other server IP in DNS zone (A record) Eg: mail.domain.com A 192.168.1.1 mail2.domain.com A 192.168.1.1

In case if you have already set up second MX record of backup mail server in DNS zone of domain then you just need to increase the priority of backup Mail server MX record than primary MX record.

In exim, we can configure it in a way that all the emails to yahoo.com can be routed through backup email servers using smarthost. All other emails should be going though current server. Here what I am looking is, if one of my client in shared server is sending an email to testxxx.com and testxxx.com is having mx mailserverip.com. What I want is, mail to the domain with mx mailserverip.com should be going through backup mail server.

I'm afraid you're not able to do that . You can send an email from one point of the globe to another in a matter of seconds.

help2linux, You can achieve this by making the MX of the domain as the backup host. Is there any reason, why you are insisting on configuring the exim to achieve this?
