Posted by smittyjack, 04-18-2009, 10:25 AM
Hi all good day. I am new to web hosting business. I recently signedup for reseller account with hostgator. they are doing well with support. the domain name was registered thru google when i tried to use google apps in earlier last year. so i make use of the same domain for my reseller account. i want to have my own domain name as nameserver too when someone query with whois tools. i dont understand the concept and i seek help from hostgator they send me an url to follow. in that i saw instructions for enom which is my domainname provider. i logged into enom account right from the google apps domains panel section. it redirects to enom account info page, i dont see any private server name options. need help on this ! Thanks with anticipation

When i registered for google apps there is an option to register domain name in the wizard, so the domain name xyz.com was registered thru google but the domain provider is enom. after i login to google apps from the control panel there is an option to view the domain details (see attached domain1.jpg) the domain config page is domain2.jpg apart from that i dont see any for private name servers. also i need in general wat is a private name server how do i configure it for my reseller account. Let me take a crack at this, and make some assumptions. What you'll need. Probably a virtual private server (VPS), these guys are pretty cheap, you can get one for 10 bucks. If your using cpanel, you can get cpanel-dns-only, and set this up on your vps. You'd probably want 2 of these for redundancy, but you can probably cheat and give that server 2 IP's. (not recommended though) Then in your cpanel, you can setup dns clustering. Your last step is, to go to where you registered your domain at, and set your nameservers. I'm not familiar with host gator, so I'm not sure if they use cpanel or anything like that. In which case, this may not work for you. Hope this helps, Charlie

What the heck are you on about? I have always been confused with registry fly just contact support with your name server names and ips and ask them to update them for you there should be no problem with that i recommend in the future using namecheap.com or similiar easy to understand control panels ect

You need to go to advanced tools --> register nameserver. You will see this if you click domains tab.

Private name server is the subdomain you are registering with the domain registry pointing to your servers or VPS ip for an example if you register ns1.domain.com ns2.domain.com pointing to your servers ip. This option varies with various registrars, check with the domain, in the attachment what are all the options in CUSTOM button?

And you really have no idea what you're talking about do you? Yes, it can be done that way, but, if you're on a reseller there is no reason to as the host already has the DNS servers set up with IP's assigned to them.

IMO, google using enom managed dns services for your domain. OP should ask hostgator IP address for the nameserver. and then edit dns information at enom managed dns tools, hostname (ns1), address (hostgator ip address), record type (A). hope it works.

Exactly! You probabily have received this info upon signing up, but nevertheless you can ask again. What you need is the IP for ns1.yourdomain and ns2.yourdomain Ask gator support what IPs these are. Then go to enom and look for custom name server. If you can't find it at first, look through help documents or contact their support. Hope this helps, good luck!

Hi all thanks for all your replies. I managed to solve this. as there was an email stating for support, i.e GoogleClients@enom.com I sent an email i got a reply stating that there is no option to add private nameservers in domain config interface, for all domains registered thru google. so they recommend me to transfer to enoms direct account and so my problem is solved. Thank u one & all for your replies.
