Looking for a Reliable Reseller...

Posted by panos1990, 02-15-2010, 02:31 AM
Hi all! Joined Webhostingtalk today because I'm sick of taking the plunge into unknown webhost companies that I find on eBay or the likes. I was with Vamphost for more then a year now, and though they had their faults now and then, I stuck with them because of their cheap price. Vamphost.com offered Unlimited space, bandwidth and accounts on a reseller plan for $14.95 USD. I'm heartbroken to find that Vamphost.com no longer exists - somehow my site is still up and running, but cPanel and WHM access has been removed (no passwords work, etc). No emails are being received either (when sending an email, the email bounces). So, I'm looking for a new reseller. I know that trying to find a reseller for the same price will mean that it's probably got some sort of fault. But, I'm not a major reseller, and had NO clients for the last year of being a reseller with Vamphost. The reason why I want a reseller account is so that I can have multiple accounts on the same hosting (as I have well over 8 of my own websites hosted), and maybe offer cheap hosting to dedicated members. I guess what I'm looking for is the following. Does anyone know of a reliable host that DOES actually offer this, and hasn't "disappeared" after a few months? Unlimited WebspaceUnlimited BandwidthUnlimited AccountsLinux Server (WHM & CPanel)Domain Reselling I guess I may be asking a bit much with the Unlimited webspace and bandwidth, since I do understand that it's not actually "UNLIMITED", but you get the idea. Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm not looking to spend too much per month, but if it's within a good price range, I'd be happy to give it a go. Thanks guys!

Sorry for the double post. After doing some searching, I came across HostHunger.com Can anyone give me a brief review of this company?

I can't say I've ever heard of them. You're never going to find a reliable unlimited host - Settle for normal limits. Most people will come here and recommend Hostgator, innohosting. Those are probably the two you hear about most. Hostdime/Surpasshosting are really good choices, I only use them for dedicated servers /VPS's though so I absolutely NO first hand experience on their reseller/shared hosting. I'm sure it's just as good though.

I can totally understand limits, but Hostgator and Innohosting's reseller plans seem a tad expensive for a larger amount of web space. I looked into server warehouses, and to rent a server was cheaper then there top-line reseller plans. Thanks for the recommendations though! I will have a look at Hostdime and Surpasshosting.

You do understand that unlimited in NOT unlimited right? You'd be far better off choosing a host with real limits so you wont be getting the surprise of your account being suspended for some ridiculous clause in their TOS/AUP.

Hard Disks capacity has a limit. There are no unlimited GB hard drives. Even if you could connect in RAID 1000000 HDs you would have reached a particular storage limit. Same applies for traffic. Traffic going through a switch port has a limit. Forget unlimited, because such thing doesn't exist and go for a reputable host instead. That's my personal advice

At that kind of price level, you can well expect to have 100+ such resellers sharing the server with you. Really, $15 reseller hosting can only be thought of as one notch above shared hosting. What is your current usage?

Posted by NoSupportLinuxHostin, 02-15-2010, 09:48 AM
Offers claiming "unlimited" are almost always a bad deal. Unlimited does not mean unlimited. Unlimited means the host has limits hidden in their Terms of Service document and they are hoping that you are too lazy to read the Terms of Service when you sign up. At no point does unlimited actually mean there are no limits.

Thanks for the interest.

Then why go for unlimited? You know there is a limit, wouldn't you rather know what the limit is rather than go in blindly and get suspended at one point or notice you can't do anything else on the server because the hard drive maxed out?

I understand what you want is something you can grow in, but let me tell you, it's extremely hard to use up 10GB space and 40GB bandwidth. Especially as a newcomer, you aren't going to be getting a ton of business at start up. Reselling is not a make money fast scheme.

Posted by rv_irl, 02-15-2010, 02:24 PM
Very accurately said..Many want as much space/bandwidth as they can get their hands on, which is of course understandable.. But it then becomes tempting to continue on finding deals with more and more space/bandwidth eventually being lured into those offering unlimited/space bandwidth.. 10GB space is plenty to get you started and carry you on through for a while in my opinion..

Posted by BA-Corey, 02-15-2010, 02:29 PM
Correct, and if your users have amassed that whole 10GB worth of space and you have less than 100, even 200 customers, someone is hosting something they shouldn't be. Same for BW, maybe even more customers, correct me if I'm wrong!

I agree with Jacob, settle for normal limits. And for personal experience I would recommend a reseller account with Hostgator.

Yeah i dont know this company too..I recomend hostgator too they are really great on everythink

Can anybody comment on JixHost and their Reseller hosting packages. I have seen all the dirty linen being washed in public. But I would like to hear some unbiased opinion.

Posted by Jim K, 02-17-2010, 11:54 AM
i dont really know them but with a quick view i think that their packages are good... And they have a live chat too so you might want to ask some more informations

I never understand why people like OP wants most reliable service but need every thing unlimited with the budget of 20-30$ per month

Posted by NoSupportLinuxHostin, 02-17-2010, 03:34 PM
I agree. Reliable and unlimited don't play well together.

Posted by domainandhost, 02-18-2010, 05:31 AM
I have no problems with limited disk space and bandwidth as most of my hosted clients have static html pages and limited flash animation. They can get around with 50mb space max. But most hosting resellers seem to offer unlimited databases, domains and control panels only with unlimited packages. This is where the issue starts

Posted by Bob929, 02-18-2010, 06:09 PM
So this is what you want but then you wonder why they went out of business? [*]Unlimited Webspace [*]Unlimited Bandwidth [*]Unlimited Accounts Wake up and realize this is an unsustainable business model. The companies who do this are inevitably super slow and over loaded. If you don't give a crap about that and just want to jam on as many accounts as you can then sign on with one of the big ones such as hostgator. I am with them now but not for much longer as I can't deal with the slow page load times on wordpress based sites. Bob @@@

You're right of course, when everything is unlimited, all hell can break lose at any moment. Then again, there's never a case of everything unlimited. These days, the limited stuff is just not stated on the packaging. $10 will still buy ~$10 of hosting services. If you bet on getting $100 worth of service, you'll increase your chances of disappointment not by a factor of 10, but exponentially.

I do not think Hostdime provides Reseller Hosting.

Ah sorry for that. I knew you only provide Dedicated and VPS. My Bad

I would suggest 'unlimited' is not only 'not unlimited' but is often 'UnControled'. Good Luck with your hunt, consider multidomain shared if it's only for your websites, or raise your budget, or lower your expectations.

I agree. It would be good if I could go to a Garage and get unlimited petrol for £1 every month... though my car blowing up a few miles down the road after wouldn't be very nice Kidding aside, your best off staying away from hosts offering unlimited diskspace and bandwidth, IMO.

Posted by Ajith Alfred, 02-22-2010, 11:27 AM
Plan your requirements and create an idea of how much you want, like disk space and bandwidth. I believe resellers with limits is good, as there won't be any catchy clauses in ToS about usages.

Posted by HostXNow_Chris, 02-22-2010, 03:05 PM
Limiting databases, domains and control panels is unnecessary. Only diskspace and bandwidth need to be limited.

Stay away from EIRCA from personal experiences and consider Cartika.

Hi there, I had very little experience with reseller account, and I haven't used hostgator but I used site5.com witch was great and fast, and I would recomend, but wasn't unlimited and then I changed to uk2.net but the problem was that my site was going offline every other week. I guess that is because they host to many accounts on a single server but I can't tell. Now I upgraded to a dedicated server, still with uk2.net, and I'm loving it, you have so much more control over your account. Hope it helps. Best regards, Daniel

Looking at your requirements just seems you are about to get an headheache. If an Host offers all of those unlimited in my opinion can not be reliable as nothing can be unlimited. Even if 1 claimed and you decided to use your limitless account as if it was really limitless I am pretty sure they will kick you by accusing you of abusing their AUP. You want to eat apples from an apricot tree? I hope you got my point and best of luck with finding the host you want.

ANYTHING "Unlimited" IS NOT reliable. It is never unlimited, it will always be limited.

Posted by HostDrug, 03-02-2010, 05:48 PM
I thought HostGator had an unlimited package , but I'm not sure , and it may not be a reseller. Resellerzoom is a very very good company with awesome support... but i don't think that they offer an unlimited package though...

People tend to buy things that are unlimited, all-you-can-eat, lifetime or similar so they don't have to worry about overages fees or cut-offs. Every host, limited or unlimited will have cpu/process limitations in effect since its entirely possible to bring down a server with less then 100mb of space.

It's not a common type of offer where I live, but I surely loved it when I visited the US. Rather than choose from a menu description, you get to choose using your eyes and taste buds. I'd say it's a better invention than sliced bread.
