Pingdom alternatives

Posted by Bhuvanesh, 10-10-2014, 02:09 PM
Hi Guys, Anybody have used any of the Pingdom alternatives like copperegg or statuscake. Or is there any other good alternatives for pingdom other than this. I am considering this because the site I am monitoring showing variations in response time according to Pingdom reports, For eg: they have a number of servers in LAS VEGAS for monitoring, when I deselect some of the servers from their probe filter, the response time graph comes back to our standards, So I doubt if there is any real issues or this is a false positive result!same location servers getting different response time for our site. But I am not sure that all LAS VEGAS servers of pingdom is using the same provider or there is real geographical separation. Please share your thoughts!!! Thanks, Bhuvanesh

Binary Canary has been great. I'd post a more detailed review, but they work and they're affordable. What else can I say?

We use nodeping for most of our monitoring, it works perfectly, which also can give response times of http etc.

I use Site24x7 and find it a good and affordable tool for website monitoring. Monitors 5 websites at 10 minute poll frequency in the free plan. Give it a try.

Rather than relying on a 3rd party, on any critical websites, we configure a probe using cacti - We have a template that uses curl to measure the response times, and of course, then use the threshold plugin to generate alerts. Works well for us, and it allows for correlation between other system events as well.

You can also check out: http://www.hyperspin.com/ But I also advice you to check with Pingdom support if they can resolve your issue or not. As Pingdom is one of the leading monitoring providers around.
