Download Backup of a Reseller Hosting

Posted by domaincart, 04-07-2011, 08:18 PM
I have a lot of reseller hosting accounts and have hundred and hundred resold accounts. So download backup of each resold accounts on their Cpanels are impossible. Have the hosting provider able to put a link on WHM to download backup of a reseller account? Or how can I move my reseller hosting accounts with their resold accounts to another provider easily? You can purchase a vps and remotely backup the accounts using the a script considering you do not have root. Also you can ask the new provider to do the migration.

I think the new provider cannot migrate resold accounts separately. Because there are about 550 resold accounts in total. I will purchase reseller hostings again. Managed VPS is an expensive solution for me.

If you have 550 accounts you should be considering your own dedicated server by now, you have to be making profit by now if not ... your doing something wrong. Anyhow thats just my honest opinion.

Everyone starts small and grow big. It's time for him to move on man. Dedicated servers are cheap now, you should consider managed VPS if you are on tight budget.

What you are looking for, is not impossible. We use Backomatic to download all the accounts with just some minor configuration (WHM Access Hash, IP, Username). Within their control panel, you will just need to generate the download link for each backup. It really saves us the headache to transfer hundreds of accounts by going to each account and generate a full backup.

So you have it backomatic for resellers frenzy but also is not bad to realize of what they told you that is time to grow up and having more resources is good for you and your clients

Faris, I understand everyone starts off some where even we did, But I wasn't trying to throw him against the wall but its only obvious with this many accounts its time for a dedicated.

I think you should really move to a dedicated server. Why should you have so many resellers when you can have all the accounts in a single dedicated server ? With 550 accounts, you should have enough revenue to afford one. But if for some reason, you have a tight budget, look for a managed VPS.

Why not just get a powerful VPS with HostDime and get them to move all of your Reseller accounts on to it for you? You can start to monitor which sites are using a lot of CPU/memory, etc and ask them to upgrade to their own VPS. You can then also resell VPS and Dedicated Server or create your own node and put Reseller accounts on VPS when needed, etc. You have a lot of accounts. Definitely a good time to upgrade. If you don't want to stay with HostDime, upgrade to a VPS with them and get them to transfer the accounts for you. You can then easily move the accounts to a different provider. All the best,

I agree that a dedicated server would be best, but I have used Backomatic myself and can recommend it from my experience.

Backomatic is your best option if you want to retain your reseller setup. You can also buy the script WHMEasybackup script and get a backup service. However, the problem with this is the file management. Compared with Backomatic they have a control panel to administer each account/backup files. Don't get VPS or Dedicated if you're not comfortable, you will only have issue with the scope or real definition of Managed when trouble arise. Your best option if you get this type of solution is to learn well the system administration job or you pay a very good sysadmin that will monitor and proactively secure and update your machines. Managed service is a promise which is meant to be broken. That's the reason why TOS do not benefit entirely the customer but instead a mutual protection at some point.

I just wanted to point out that WHMEasyBackup is fully extensible. For example the following can be added to a config file to delete unwanted backups. Last edited by DWS2006; 04-15-2011 at 04:59 PM.

So if you have 5-copy in a week (daily). Then you set the deletion; the old one will be deleted from the remote location? Is this available in your trial script?

Basically the mod posted assumes the following: You are running a daily backup every day of the week. (7 Days a Week). And for illustration lets say that you want to keep 3 days of backup on file. The first day you run this script no file delete will occur. The second day, same as first. However on the fourth day and each day thereafter, one day of backups will be deleted just before the current day is added. In this way no more than 3 days of backups will exist.

Also this will work with the trial version, just add it to the end of the config before the closing ?>

I also use Backomatic for my backups, however there is a catch. When a customer account is close to quota it won't get backuped.

Its just so easy to write a script to tell CPanel to send your full backups thru ftp. Try it if you have some free time.
