Any risk of shutting of windows firewall on Windows 2008 R2? I typically shut it off but is their any risk associated with doing so? It blocks all the ports so it gets very annoying to deal with.

Why not leave it running and simply open required ports? http://dbatricksworld.com/how-to-ope...erver-2008-r2/

Of course I know about opening ports. But opening so many ports because multiple applications need them open is kind of a pain.

Getting exploited is more of a pain ! Put a HW firewall in front of it _before_ considering turning windoze firewall off.

Lowering the firewall would be insane.
