Windows Reseller with HELM

Posted by dwd_za, 01-03-2012, 05:42 AM
Hi, I have been a reseller using Resellerguru for the past 6 years with no realy issues and today I received an email saying that they are closing down. So I need to move my clients off to a new host urgently. I am looking for recommendations please. Looking for a Windows Reseller who uses HELM as a control panel. I cannot make too many drastic changes so as to keep my clients comfortable with the move. If anyone has any advice or suggestions on some great Windows Resellers, please let me know. Thanx. DwD

Well if you have the clients from last 6 yrs and you are still running good then your best deal would be to go with a VPS now ,so that you can provide latest hosting experience to your clients. thats the suggestion only .... Regarding HELM reseller its pretty hard to get one now.

Yeah, we're doing ok and this year was a serious marketing plan to build on our previous successes... As for the VPS solution - yeah, that would be an option at a later stage - but for now I have limited time to move my clients to a new host. Why is HELM hard to find now-a-days? Also, excluding HELM - any othter suggestions? Thanx DwD

Enkompass is the way to go. Last edited by CD Burnt; 01-06-2012 at 05:07 AM. Reason: snip

I'll recommend WebsitePanel - we were using Helm 3 as well at early stages and then all mess happened (HELM 4 + Parallel's takeover / etc.). HELM 3 has been very very solid for whatever features it offered. We've since then moved to WebsitePanel and have been fairly happy. Good luck with your search!

Parallels bought it almost a handful of years ago, to let it die in agony under the feet of their own Plesk product, to then after assimilate it, borg-style.

Any option you choose either reseller or VPS all transfer have to do manually..so why not make it now and move all your client to VPS. Maybe you're facing some problem on transfer now but at least it's not double trouble..when next time you have to transfer again from reseller to VPS.

If I go VPS now - then I have to setup the system - don't I? Isn't going VPS kinda like getting my own dedicated servers and having to configure and setup the entire hosting environment etc.? Essentially, I have until the 15th of January to have all my clients moved across to a new host. This was not a planned move, so with our current planned workload and now this very important move, I don't have the time to research VPS hosting setups etc. *sigh* Also, there is surely to be a significant price hike from reseller to VPS? At the moment I was paying USD 15 for 10GB diskspace, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited domains, unlimited emails etc. So HELM is a no go eh! *sigh*

Depends - you can get a VPS with pre-installed components (you may contact your prospective host regarding this). Also, you would be having a price hike if you opt for premium services. If you do not need the overhead of migrating/installation stuff on VPS, get in touch with some experts who can handle this.

Depends. Managed VPSES are avaliable. You could then get the host to configure it as you wanted. You can get a VPS with 1GB rams for about £10 per month, so is cheaper than what you are paying.

ok guys.. if you have an offering - VPS or Reseller you would like to put forth, please PM me with the details...

Check appliedi.net, they may still be able to put you on HELM. I know they are using WebSitePanel as well, so you will need to contact them and see.

Current panels: Plesk Outdated panels: Enkompass, Helm, WebsitePanel, DotNetPanel. I also consider H-Sphere outdated, even if it has a 2011 release. The problem with dated panels is not just security, but lack of modern features. HELM is what we used in 2005-2006. Not 2012.

Check out LiquidSix. I have a Helm-based reseller account there for my old FrontPage customers. My impression is that you want to move a large bulk of customers with least hassle and don't want to set up and manage your own server (or vps).

Thanx for the suggestion - Yes and No - Yes - I need to move my existing clients as my existing host is closing down and I only have 13 days in which to have everone migrated across. So the quicker and easier the better No - Whatever decision or host I choose, it is going to be long term so I need to get someone good, reliable and meets my needs. I am starting to think that maybe I should consider a VPS solution as then I can start offering a better product and service. This was always the plan, but never implemented as I never really had any major issues with my existing host so a little of a comfort zone. My worry about the whole VPS solution is that it would need to be setup, tested and then have all the existing clients moved across - all this in 13 days and with other work to do... thats my worry... Logically, doing an "upgrade" - move to a VPS solution may actually be the best thing to do going forward: Windows 2008, IIS7, MSSQL 2k8, Plesk (looks good to me?) What do you think and who would you recommend? *sigh* this is just such bad timing...

Posted by kpmedia, 01-03-2012, 04:24 PM
Yes, that. EuroVPS or JaguarPC would be my suggestions for that sort of setup. Plesk is the best panel for Windows hosting now.

How many customers are you going to move to a new host? Helm is good but i guess you are still hosting on Windows 2003 servers with Resellerguru. All current control panels have more features than Helm.

May you share which features Plesk support that WebsitePanel do not?

Posted by dwd_za, 01-04-2012, 03:19 AM
Around 150 customers and around 250 domains...

Posted by dwd_za, 01-04-2012, 03:23 AM
I am looking at an offering from JaguarPC at the moment with respect to their VPS solution ... Seems pretty good - Any suggestions/advice? The only question I have is Plesk vs WebsitePanel? Both look good, but any advice of either of them?

Posted by PremiumHost, 01-04-2012, 10:12 PM
JaguarPC has been around for long time so one thing you can be sure is they won't disappear overnight. Find a demo of Plesk & WebsitePanel and try to navigate around. All control panels support functionality to create/manage hosting account and features like email, database, ftp ... Plesk is good for one server set up. We use multiple servers for different services (web, email, database) so WebsitePanel is the best choice.

Thanx. This is such a difficult decision. So many options, so many reputable companies...

Posted by kpmedia, 01-05-2012, 02:05 PM
Plesk has had that ability since version 7.

Posted by Collabora, 01-05-2012, 02:33 PM
I found this interesting but could not find anything on their site or guides to support it. The last time I used Plesk was with HSP Complete and even then Plesk had to be installed on every server. But to tell you the truth I don't recall if I was able to setup email on one server and web sites on another -- I don't think I was able to. This is possible now - with databases, dns, etc?

Posted by PremiumHost, 01-05-2012, 08:04 PM
You mean Plesk support multi servers setup since 2004? Check out this topic on Plesk forum http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=112895

Posted by Collabora, 01-05-2012, 08:57 PM
Thanks for that reference PH, that's what I thought: "Multiserver solution for Plesk in development stage now. When it will be released you will be able to use different services - mail, DNS, SQL on different servers. It will allow to increase Plesk performance dramatically." [August 2011] http://forum.parallels.com/showpost....24&postcount=5

I was using a host that had mail, MySQL, MSSQL and the webserver on separate servers. Plesk was used to control the webserver system. That was shared hosting, Plesk 7 Windows, 2006.

Posted by Collabora, 01-05-2012, 11:04 PM
Plesk is a standalone app and you need to install it on each web server. The plesk instance on one server is unaware of the other servers. You need an additional application to tie together the separate instances of plesk.

Hi From being in windows hosting for over 10 years I've used a fair few control panels, Helm was the best 5 years ago until Parallels bought them and killed the product, the Dotnetpanel was the next best thing, that then went opensource with £199 ticket support and very little updates/slow control panel + bugs. Enkompass we decided was the way forward as it offered a cloud hosting style solution, but now CPanel have annouced Enkompass is to be axed.. Still Enkompass is by far the best control panel i've used for a user point of view, its just easy for customers.

I am happy now with websitepanel . mocha support is good.

Thanks to resellerguru for closing his worst company.

Posted by Serverji, 01-21-2012, 08:06 AM
Resellerguru made a lot of money these past 6 years selling people outdated hosting panel and average support. But With more and more new hosting providers coming up with good supports and uptimes, resellerguru never stood a chance to keep his ground. Managing 5 servers with NO new clients signing up can make a lot of dent on the income and thats what happened with resellerguru. So he thought wise to take the money and close the business while he still had some profits. We have now moved to bizzhost.com as they provided the same panel so our clients did not notice much of a change.
